Sacramento Pedestrian Fatalities

I’m Ed Smith, a pedestrian accident lawyer in Sacramento. Police in Sacramento are investigating after two pedestrians were struck and killed in two separate pedestrian accidents on the evening of Thursday, February 16, 2017.

What Happened?

The initial pedestrian crash happened about 7:15 p.m. near Roanoke Avenue and Marysville Boulevard in Sacramento.

Sacramento Police Department (SPD) reported that an elderly gentleman was proceeding across Marysville Boulevard when he was hit and killed by a driver heading in the northbound direction.

Did the Driver Stop?

Yes. The driver of the vehicle that hit the elderly man stayed at the scene until police arrived. The driver reportedly cooperated with police who have the task of investigating the incident. Sometimes investigative reports prepared by the police can be inconclusive or in error. This can leave the loved ones of the individual who has passed away with many unanswered questions. It is important to contact a pedestrian accident lawyer who can thoroughly investigate the area as well as the sequence of events prior to a crash to properly determine fault. Contact an attorney for more information.

Road Closures

A perimeter around the site of the pedestrian fatality was blocked off so investigators could prepare a report of their findings as to cause of this tragic accident. Traffic was affected as officers closed Marysville Boulevard from South to Grand. Roanoke was closed from Clarkson to Willow.

Second Pedestrian Accident

The second pedestrian collision happened about 10 minutes after the Roanoke Avenue and Marysville Boulevard incident. The second accident occurred at the intersection of Richards Boulevard and North Seventh Street in Sacramento.

Police indicated that a homeless man was struck by two cars. He was transported to an area hospital where he passed away a short time later.

We have learned that one of driver’s that hit the homeless man stayed at the accident scene. The other driver fled the scene in what appears to be a hit-and-run accident.

Additional Road Closure

The second pedestrian accident prompted the closure of Richards Boulevard. Traffic was affected due to road closure at Richards Boulevard. The Light Rail was also affected for morning commuters.

Witness Information

Investigators have the task of determining who the the hit and run motorist is, and preparing a traffic collision report for this incident. Drivers were asked to avoid both of these areas.

If you were in the area along Richards Boulevard and can identify the fleeing vehicle or have a description of the motorist involved in this pedestrian fatality, please contact Sacramento Police Department at (916) 264-5471.
