Gerber Road in South Sacramento Site of Overturned Vehicle

An accident involving an overturned vehicle in South Sacramento on August 18 sent two people to the hospital with injuries. The collision occurred in the Vineyard area around 8:52 in the evening at Gerber and Bradshaw roads. According to the report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the vehicle went off the road and rolled, ending up on its roof in a ditch.

Gerber Road Blocked While Overturned Vehicle Is Removed

The parties inside the vehicle were helped out. Paramedics transported two people to Kaiser South for their injuries. Gerber Road’s eastbound lane remained blocked while a tow truck removed the vehicle and an accident investigation was conducted. The South Sacramento road reopened shortly before 10:00 p.m.

Rollovers Can Lead to Roof Crush

Rollovers are among the most deadly types of accidents. When the airbags initially deploy, the passengers inside the vehicle are protected. However, airbags deflate quickly, leaving the passengers inside vulnerable to serious injuries as the vehicle tumbles. If the vehicle experiences roof crush where the top caves in because side supports are not strong enough to support the weight, traumatic brain injuries can occur as well as spinal cord damage, broken bones and other trauma.

Preserving the Vehicle After Roof Crush

When a vehicle experiences a roof crush in an accident, it is vital to preserve the car or truck to be examined. Vans, pickups, and SUVs are more likely to experience a rollover. However, any vehicle can if it has a narrow wheelbase or is top-heavy.

Manufacturers are only required to use the minimum standards when testing vehicles for roof crush. Unfortunately, not all of the vehicles on the road are up to even these minimum standards. Having an attorney who is experienced in handling roof crush injuries is important to obtain the compensation that you deserve.

Single-Vehicle Crashes

Most accidents involving a single vehicle are driver error related that may include speeding, distracted driving, or fatigue. Others are caused by an outside influence, including:

  • Negligent road maintenance: The government entity charged with maintenance repairs potholes, keeps foliage trimmed so it won’t obscure signage, replaces damaged or old guardrails and ensures lighting is adequate. Failure to perform proper maintenance can lead to a single-vehicle accident. The agency may be held liable for injuries caused by an overturned vehicle in these cases.
  • Mechanical problems: A blown tire, brake failure, or other reasons can cause a vehicle to exit the road and overturn. If an auto defect in the part caused the accident, the manufacturer and others in the chain might be held responsible.
  • Other drivers: A driver who is passing on a two-lane road can cause a vehicle to go off to avoid a head-on collision. An aggressive driver can also intentionally force another car off the road, causing an overturned vehicle accident.

Conducting the Investigation

Our investigators excel in collecting the evidence to support a personal injury claim. They head to the overturned vehicle accident site, speak to the witnesses and look for mistakes in the police report. They also look for traffic surveillance cameras that could have filmed the overturned vehicle crash and perform accident reconstruction.

Once the information is gathered, our lawyers construct a strong case to support our client’s claim. Whether the evidence is used when negotiating with an insurance company or preparing a court case, the client is assured that our law office does its absolute best.
