Sacramento Intersection Two-Vehicle Accident

Accident at Watt Avenue and Butano Drive Injures One Person

One individual was injured in an August 12 two-vehicle crash at a Sacramento intersection. The crash occurred at Watt Avenue and Butano Drive in the area of Arden-Arcade around 2:44 in the afternoon, according to the police report by the Sacramento Highway Patrol (CHP). The accident involved a Toyota Highlander and a Toyota Corolla.

The injured man phoned the person who called in the accident and advised that he had been involved in a collision and needed medical care. A tow truck was called to remove the Corolla, and first responders were sent to the accident scene to assess injuries. The CHP is investigating to determine what happened.

Sacramento Intersection Accidents Caused by Driver Error

Driver error accounts for about 95 percent of all accidents, and intersections account for 44 percent of all traffic collisions. A few safety tips when approaching a Sacramento intersection can be helpful. When approaching a cross street, drivers should observe the following to avoid accidents:

  • Do not make illegal maneuvers. Common ones are when a driver tries to perform an illegal U-turn, speeds or runs a stop sign.
  • Don’t assume you know what the other driver is going to do. This is a major cause of a Sacramento intersection accident.
  • Don’t let distractions cause you to get into a collision. Texting, talking on a cell phone, chatting with passengers and other activities take away the driver’s focus.
  • Don’t assume you can judge another vehicle’s speed. This is common when motorists turn in front of a motorcycle rider and end up in a Sacramento intersection accident. It is difficult to judge the speed of a vehicle heading toward you.

Making Intersections Safer

Motorists all know that some intersections are safer than others. The problematic ones are those where the intersections are poorly designed, have bad lighting, narrow lanes, or obstructions to the motorist’s view. If an accident injury occurs, the government entity in charge may be held liable. The best thing for a driver to do is to avoid them. Some ways in which a dangerous Sacramento intersection can be improved are:

  • Make sure that traffic lights and signs are clearly visible to drivers. This goes a long way toward improving safety.
  • Traffic signals have to have the correct timing. This way, drivers are less likely to run a traffic light, and it prevents vehicles from being caught in the middle when the signal changes.
  • Left-turn lanes help prevent rear-end collisions and improve the flow of traffic.
  • Include bicycle lanes and traffic controls for walkers along with crosswalks. This can help avoid intersection dangers to those on foot or bicycles.
  • Excess shrubbery, overhanging limbs, and other obstacles can prevent motorists from having a clear view and cause a Sacramento intersection collision.
  • Ensure that intersections have either a traffic signal or stop sign.

Investigating a Sacramento Intersection Accident

Traffic converges at an intersection from numerous directions, and the danger is compounded by the presence of bicycle riders, walkers, and motorcyclists. Because of this, it is important to determine and prove fault in the collision, so the injured individual can obtain compensation to pay for their medical bills and other costs. Our investigators collect all evidence that can be used to support our client’s claim for compensation.

The investigators conduct accident reconstruction, talk to witnesses and review the police report for mistakes. In addition, they check the area for road, traffic and business surveillance cameras to see if the accident was captured on tape. Signs of government negligence are also checked. When the investigation is complete, our lawyers use it to construct a strong case to use with the insurance company or in court.
