U.S. 50 Accident Involving Fleeing Driver Causes Rollover

A hit-and-run resulting in injuries happened in Sacramento on June 4 that may have been caused by a negligent driver. The collision occurred around 9:00 p.m. along eastbound U.S. 50 just west of the 59th Street off-ramp. One of the vehicles, a black SUV, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) report, ended up overturned onto its roof and was smoking.

Reckless Driver May Have Caused Collision

The parties did not exit the vehicle, and responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived to extricate them. A car seat was found on the left side of the vehicle and was removed by firefighters. A witness to the accident reported that the driver of the hit-and-run vehicle was swerving at the time and may have caused the traffic collision. Police are looking for an SUV or pickup similar to a jeep and possibly white in color with damage on its right-hand side.

Injuries in a Rollover Accident

Injuries are common in a rollover accident because the increased motion causes passengers inside to get knocked around. In addition, seat belts sometimes break, and the airbags deflate, offering no further protection. Over the years, my legal team and I have helped many people get fair compensation for their lost wages, medical costs, and pain and suffering when their injuries were caused by the negligence of another.

Roof Crush and Retaining the Vehicle

Manufacturers are held to a certain standard in the strength of the upper part of vehicles to prevent roof crush; however, not all carmakers do this. When the roof caves in, it can cause traumatic brain injuries and other serious harm. Retaining the vehicle after an accident is important, so our engineers can examine it for this type of defect, in which case, the manufacturer may be held responsible through a product liability claim.

Hit-and-Run Collisions

Over the years, my law office has successfully located a number of hit-and-run drivers. We strongly believe that it’s difficult enough for someone to be injured in an accident that wasn’t their fault. They should never be responsible for the financial costs incurred by that injury, so we work hard to locate the at-fault party to hold them responsible.

When a Hit-and-Run Driver Isn’t Found

In some instances, it isn’t possible to locate the hit-and-run driver. However, there is another option that can be used by the injured party to get the compensation needed to cover their medical expenses and other losses. This is through using their uninsured/underinsured policy.

Insurance Coverage for Traffic Accidents

All California motorists are offered an optional uninsured/underinsured policy when they first elect to purchase car insurance. Many people in California have it because of the high percentage of drivers in the state who either don’t have enough insurance or have none at all. An individual who has been injured can use this insurance to cover their expenses.

If the injured party does not have this add-on policy to their auto insurance, there is an additional option. When a member of the household has uninsured/underinsured insurance, the injured party can use that to cover their expenses. It does not increase the rates. This type of add-on policy also covers injuries if you are riding a bicycle or motorcycle or are a pedestrian.
