Sacramento Highway Injury Involves Fleeing Driver

A Sacramento highway injury occurred along State Route 99 northbound when a number of vehicles collided, and one driver is being sought by police for fleeing the scene without stopping. The accident happened shortly after 8:00 in the morning just north of the Florin Road East off-ramp and was reported by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) as having involved four vehicles. All of the vehicles were over on the right-hand side of the road, which allowed traffic to continue passing.

Fleeing Driver in Sacramento Highway Injury

A Lexus RS 300 sustained rear-end damage due to the collision, and the driver was reported to have suffered unknown injuries. An ambulance was summoned, which transported the Lexus driver to Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center. According to the police report, one vehicle, described as a gray sedan, took off after the traffic collision with one wheel riding on its rim. A witness called in to report that the driver was hiding behind the Saybrook Apartments on 47th Avenue. No information has been released on whether that driver was apprehended. However, that person faces possible charges of felony hit-and-run in the incident.

Hit and Run Accidents

A Sacramento highway accident with serious injury or a fatality is referred to as a felony hit and run when the driver leaves the scene. In lesser cases, the driver may be charged with a misdemeanor. However, leaving the scene when someone has been injured or killed will be charged as a felony under California law, even if the Sacramento highway injury accident was not their fault. Because a hit and run with injuries or fatalities is considered a serious offense, the driver may face as much as four years in jail, a fine of up to $10,000 and other penalties and charges, depending on other particulars of the accident.

How an Experienced Injury Lawyer Can Help in a Hit and Run

An injury lawyer with a well-established law firm has the financial resources and access to technologies and skills that can help locate a hit and run driver. However, the more quickly an injured person reaches out for advice and assistance in locating that driver, the more likely he or she will be found.

Compensation in a Sacramento Highway Injury Accident

Personal injury damages that can be recovered in an accident caused by negligence include the following:

  • Medical expenses: Recovery of damages cover anything that has to do with medical expenses, including ambulance, hospitalization, tests, rehabilitation, and others. Out-of-pocket expenses are also recoverable such as trips to and from the doctor.
  • Lost wages: Time spent in a hospital or at home recovering from an accident injury is recoverable. This includes future lost wages if the injured person has a long recovery period. If the injured person cannot perform the same job as before and changes jobs with a reduction in salary, the difference in pay is recoverable.
  • Loss of consortium: Damage to the marital union, including loss of affection, fellowship and other aspects of a personal relationship can be reimbursed.
  • Scarring or disfigurement: Some accidents cause unsightly scarring or disfigurement, which results in emotional and psychological damage. These types of permanent injuries are compensated.
  • Punitive damages: These types of damages are rarely awarded and only to those whose injury was intentionally caused or happened through negligence such as being injured by a drunk driver.
