Sacramento Drunk Driver

A Sacramento drunk driver may have been a factor in an accident along Jackson Road that occurred on November 15, when two cars collided. An ambulance was called to the scene of the crash for unknown injuries, and two individuals were trapped for a time in their vehicle. The collision is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP), who will determine what led to the wreck and to place fault.

Sacramento Drunk Driver Details

The motor vehicle collision occurred shortly after 6:30 in the morning at Jackson Road and Hedge Avenue, which is south of Mather Airport, when two Honda vehicles, one of them a Honda Pilot, crashed. One vehicle presented a traffic hazard to oncoming traffic, however, tow trucks were called to remove them from the scene. A toxicology test was requested from U.C. Davis Hospital for at least one of the individuals involved in the car accident.

Drunk Driving in California

Between 2015 and 2016, fatalities caused by California drunk drivers increased by 16.3 percent. Vehicle crashes where drunk or drugged driving was a factor involved 15 percent of the drivers who were killed in statistics supplied by the California Office of Traffic Safety in 2017. It has been shown that many drunk drivers have been arrested before for the same offense but are on the roadways a number of times before being stopped by police.

How Drinking Affects a Sacramento Drunk Driver

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, more than 10,000 fatalities occur yearly that can be attributed to drunk driving. Drunk driving charges can also be issued for those who are drug impaired, whether through the use of illegal narcotics or over-the-counter or prescription drugs. The amount of alcohol in a driver’s system determines the level of impairment as follows:

  • 0.02 percent: The driver shows some judgment loss and less visual acuity. The ability to perform multiple tasks at the same time is diminished.
  • 0.05 percent: Behavior may become exaggerated, coordination is reduced, steering is more difficult, judgment is impaired and the driver reacts more slowly in an emergency situation.
  • 0.08 percent: Coordination becomes more difficult, including speech, balance, reaction time, hearing and vision. While driving, it becomes harder to focus, control the speed of the vehicle, process information such as approaching a red light and register that there are other cars around you. This can cause a Sacramento drunk driver to be involved in an accident causing severe injuries.
  • 0.10 percent: The driver has difficulty applying the brakes and staying in one lane. Control and reaction time has drastically deteriorated. Speech is slurred, the ability to think has deteriorated and coordination is poor.
  • 0.15 percent: The motorist is substantially impaired and unable to process the information needed to drive safely. Loss of balance is major, muscle control is diminished and vomiting may occur.
