Sacramento Autonomous Vehicle Testing

I’m Ed Smith, a Sacramento Wrongful death attorney. Autonomous vehicle companies are seeking to experimentally test their products on the streets of cities in California. Sacramento may be a test site if the city’s application is approved in January by the Department of Transportation.

Sacramento a Designated Testing Site?

Leaders for the city of Sacramento have signed up for a permit to become a designated testing grounds for these vehicles. Sacramento would be the first city in California’s history to allow the testing of self-driving cars to travel on its city roadways. If the city receives approval from the federal Department of Transportation, the safe testing of autonomous vehicles would begin no later than January 2018.

Congresswoman Notes Autonomous Vehicles

Congresswoman Doris Matsui met with Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg on December 15, 2016 at the California Auto Museum to make an announcement regarding how to lure autonomous vehicle companies to test out their experiments on the streets of Sacramento. Congresswoman Matsui believes that the new technology of self-driving cars can greatly reduce the annual road fatalities in the nation by 35,000, which a majority of these accidents occur due to motorist error.

Autonomous Vehicle Testing May Improve Sacramento

Although autonomous vehicle testing is already taking place in other cities in California and other states in the nation, there has not been one city that has been established to allow extensive testing where various teams may cooperate and communicate with one another. The city of Sacramento is motivated to become the city known as the epicenter of self-driving car testing. Ultimately, the testing of autonomous vehicles may boost the economy and reputation of the city of Sacramento as a technological innovator.
