Sacramento Accident Causes Traffic Fatality and Injury to Toddler

Child Injured and Adult Driver Dies in Franklin Boulevard Two-Vehicle Crash

A traffic fatality and injury to a toddler occurred in Sacramento on June 28 after a two-vehicle collision. The accident happened at about 5:10 p.m. at the intersection of Franklin Boulevard and 21st Avenue, according to the incident report by the Sacramento Police Department. A department spokesperson said the female driver died at the accident scene.

Toddler Reported in Stable Condition at Local Hospital

A toddler inside the vehicle was transported by medics with the Sacramento Fire Department to a nearby hospital. The toddler was reported to be in stable condition. The driver in the other vehicle involved in the crash did not suffer any serious injuries.

Traffic Fatality Accident Being Investigated to Determine Cause

Police investigators are working at determining how the car accident occurred. The County Coroner’s Office has identified the woman as 26-year-old Carla Ochoa of Sacramento. A GoFundMe page has been created on behalf of the Ochoa family to help cover funeral services and provide support for her son.

More Than Half of All Traffic Accidents Happen at Intersections

Intersections are dangerous but unavoidable locations for motorists, bicycle riders, and pedestrians alike. Because traffic converges at intersections, the wary motorist or other user has to scan in all directions before entering the crossroads and hope that no one will disobey traffic laws. Unfortunately, many accidents happen every day, and the following are some of the reasons why:

  • Distracted driving is the number one reason for all types of collisions that can lead to a traffic fatality. The driver who is texting, eating, drinking or performing another activity is not focusing on the road ahead or other motorists.
  • Running a red light or speeding is another main reason for an intersection collision that leads to a traffic fatality. Red-light runners disregard the safety of others, and speeders either try to run through a light that has just changed or are going too fast to stop.
  • Drunk driving is still a major cause of accidents. Because an inebriated driver has poor reflexes, their vision is affected and their judgment altered, an encounter with one in the area can cause a traffic fatality.
  • Turning right without a clear view of oncoming traffic from the left can cause an accident. Blocked views on the left are usually caused by vehicles in other lanes pulling up too close to the crosswalk.
  • Turning left after the turn arrow has changed can lead to a traffic fatality. Traffic starts up quickly once a light has changed to green, and a driver turning left in front of them can end up causing a head-on or T-bone collision.

Placing a Claim Following a Wrongful Death

When someone in your family died due to another’s negligence, the family may be able to place a wrongful death claim to recover damages. Although it does not ease their grief, the recovery of financial compensation can help them transition into a life without their loved one and offers them a sense of justice.

Investigating a Traffic Fatality

My injury attorneys and I have worked hard for many years to help those who’ve suffered the death of a loved one in acquiring compensation. We investigate the collision to determine why and how it happened and collect the evidence needed to support your claim. In this way, the family can continue dealing with their grief without worrying about covering the end-of-life expenses and other losses they are experiencing.
