Watt Avenue Rollover Accident Blocks Traffic

A rollover accident reportedly occurred because of a hit and run in Arden-Arcade on May 27, leaving one person injured. Officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) were called to the accident around noon along northbound Watt Avenue just north of Fair Oaks Boulevard. They discovered a blue motor vehicle upside down and blocking the number one and number two lanes.

Emergency Responders Assist in Rollover Accident

Responders with the Sacramento Fire Department were called to the scene to assist the driver in exiting the vehicle. The injured party advised that it was a hit and run and that the vehicle fled the scene. The extent of injuries to the driver of the overturned car was not reported. The rollover accident is being investigated by authorities with the CHP to determine the cause.

Negligence in Rollover Accidents

Some vehicles have more of a tendency to experience a rollover than others such as vans, SUVs and light trucks. This is because their center of gravity is higher. However, negligence in one form or another is a major cause of rollovers. When negligence is involved, an injured person may claim fair compensation for their injuries with the help of an experienced Arden-Arcade personal injury lawyer. Among the causes of a rollover are:

  • Collisions with another car or truck, especially if it is a side-impact crash, can cause a vehicle to experience a rollover.
  • Defective tires that suddenly blow out or experience steel belt and tread separation and other auto defects can lead to a rollover accident.
  • Government negligence when a large pothole or other road damage causes a rollover means the entity in charge of maintenance can be liable.
  • Injuries and fatality numbers increase when roof crush occurs during a rollover. Automakers are required to make their vehicle roof strong enough to avoid crushing in during a rollover. If the vehicle’s roof crushes in causing injuries, the manufacturer and designer may be held liable through a product liability claim.

Locating a Hit and Run Driver

My law office has a great deal of experience and resources available to locate a hit and run driver and has been successful in many cases. Investigation and collection of evidence are key, which is why it is crucial to preserve your wrecked vehicle after being in a rollover. Our investigators begin by interviewing witnesses to the rollover accident and reviewing the report by the police for errors. Other areas where they pursue evidence include:

  • The investigators perform accident reconstruction to determine if another vehicle was present.
  • Paint smears, metal and other debris are collected to match it to the make, model and year of the vehicle of the at-fault driver.
  • An examination is made to determine if government negligence was responsible for the accident. This can be due to potholes, heaves in the pavement, poor lighting, bad design and other causes.
  • The area is surveyed for traffic and business surveillance cameras that may have captured the accident on tape.
  • The vehicle is examined to see if a defective auto part caused the rollover accident such as tires, brakes or accelerator. This would allow the injured person to place a claim against the manufacturer and others in a product liability lawsuit.

When the gathering of evidence is completed, our lawyers use it to build a case for compensation for our client. It is used either when negotiating with the insurance provider or presented in court.
