Road Resurfacing

I’m Ed Smith, a Roseville Auto Accident Attorney. You may have noticed the road resurfacing work along Douglas Boulevard going on in the evening hours. This project began on Tuesday between Sierra Gardens Drive and North Sunrise Avenue. According to Roseville Public Works website, the project will continue to occur from 7:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. on weekdays and will last approximately four weeks. Only one lane of travel in each direction is available for motorists during the nighttime and early morning hours of construction. The speed limit through the construction zone is 25 miles per hour.

Watch for Road Crews

The city of Roseville has asked motorists to exercise extreme caution through the affected area. They want us to watch out for the workers who are out there trying to make our roads safer for the Roseville community. Electronic message boards are currently on display showing the construction dates and hours.

Why Does It Take So Long To Repair Roads?

It does seem to take forever to get even the slightest improvements completed on our roads and freeways. The Across The Top project has been going on for nearly five years to replace 10 miles of freeway. The project is nearing completion but promises to be a huge mess for motorists this weekend.

This particular resurfacing project along Douglas Boulevard in Roseville won’t take more than a month. Resurfacing is performed in a multi-step sequence. Workers will be getting rid of the top layer of our existing asphalt using specialized grinding equipment. Before they can apply the new pavement, the road has to have a coarse surface for a short amount of time. The construction area will be swept regularly to reduce debris and dust. In addition to fresh pavement, bicycle lanes will be added and pedestrian ramps will be upgraded along the curbs to meet the new requirements of American with Disabilities guidelines.

Improving and Protecting the Infrastructure

Regular road maintenance helps to protect the City of Roseville’s infrastructure. The city indicated the infrastructure is an asset worth more than 1 billion dollars.
