Rio Vista Accident Statistics

I’m Ed Smith, a Rio Vista car accident lawyer. Rio Vista is a tiny city on the eastern edge of Solano county with a population of just over 8,000. Residents enjoy easy access to the Delta and a quiet, small-town atmosphere.

However, like everywhere, Rio Vista has also been the site of numerous vehicle accidents. Those who drive in the city may want to know these useful accident statistics.

Overview of Collisions

Research reports from UC Berkeley show that, from the beginning of 2011 to the end of 2016, 49 accidents resulting in injury have occurred within the city of Rio Vista. This makes the per-capita injury accident rate of Rio Vista less than half the rate for Solano county in its entirety.

Of Rio Vista’s traumatic collisions, 3 involved pedestrians, 1 involved a bike, and 4 involved motorcycles. Additionally, more than half (28) of these accidents happened on state highways within Rio Vista.

Collision Type

The type of vehicle collision that most frequently injures people in Rio Vista is broadside collisions. With a total of 14 over the 5-year period, broadside accidents made up 28.57 percent of trauma-related crashes in the city. After broadside collisions, rear-end and hit-object collisions were the next most common, both with 10 accidents each and accounting for 20.41 percent of Rio Vista’s collisions that involved injuries.

In contrast, the least common type of crash in Rio Vista was rollover collisions, of which there has only been one in the last six years.

Severity

The majority (57.14 percent) of injuries received in Rio Vista accidents include only a complaint of pain from one of the individuals involved in the accident. Only 2 people have lost their lives in collisions in Rio Vista since 2011, and only 5 were severely injured. Finally, 14 people suffered non-severe visible trauma.

This data indicates that accidents in Rio Vista tend to be more severe than in other parts of the county. In fact, Rio Vista’s auto accident fatality rate is about double that of Solano as a whole.

Traffic Violations

Accidents are frequently caused by drivers who, for one reason or another, violate a traffic law. In Rio Vista, the most common traffic law violation to result in auto accident injuries during 2011-2016 was speeding, which accounted for 10.20 percent of all violations that resulted in injuries.

After speeding, the most common injury-causing traffic violations were vehicle right-of-way violations, improper turning, and DUI. Additionally, the least dangerous violation in Rio Vista drivers using the wrong side of the road.

Dangerous Intersections

These Rio Vista intersections have been the site of accidents more frequently than others. Drivers, bicyclists, and pedestrians may want to pay special attention when using them:

  • Virginia Drive and Highway 12
  • Highway 12 and Summerset Road
  • South Second Street and Hamilton Avenue
