I’m Ed Smith, a Redding car accident lawyer. On Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at approximately 2:55 p.m, a head-on collision involving two vehicles occurred in Redding.

What Happened?

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to a head-on collision at 1:00 p.m. When first responders arrived on scene they discovered one party was trapped in their vehicle and emergency medical teams were called in to extract them from the vehicle. The driver of the other vehicle was able to get out safely. Both parties suffered moderate to major injuries in the collision.

Though it may seem like head-on collisions are easy to avoid and rarely happen, there are numerous reasons why these front-end crashes happen quite frequently. Common causes of head-on accidents include:

Injuries received can depend on multiple factors including safety features within the vehicle, the speed the vehicle was traveling at when the accident occurred and a person’s size and seating position within the vehicle. Some head-on collisions may result in injuries such as:

Head-on accidents are frequently viewed as the most dangerous type of crash. When automobiles are moving at rapid speeds, there is a large risk of fatality. While head-on collisions only account for a small percentage of all auto accidents, they tend to result in fatalities. The likelihood of a debilitating head injury also carries a high probability as drivers may collide with their steering wheel, windshield or other components of the vehicle. If someone in the vehicle is not wearing their seatbelt, they could be ejected from the car during the collision.
