Redding Alleged DUI Fatality

A 41-year-old resident of Humboldt County was arrested on charges of DUI as well as gross vehicular manslaughter on the night of Wednesday, March 21, 2018, following a collision involving two vehicles. The deceased was identified by the Shasta County Coroner’s Office as 24-year-old Redding resident Matthew Cave Seiglock on the morning of Thursday, March 22, 2018.

Accident Details
Redding Police Department (RPD) officers reported that the accident occurred at about 8:10 p.m. on South Street at the intersection of California Street. The Humboldt woman had been driving a 1972 Chevy sedan west along South street approaching the intersection with three passengers, including Sieglock, seated in the vehicle. When she arrived at the intersection, she neglected to stop for a red light and was struck by a southbound 2017 Toyota pickup truck.
The pickup truck was knocked off of the roadway as a result of the collision and struck the pole of a street light located at the intersection’s southwest corner before coming to a stop.
Response and Injuries
The Toyota driver, whose identity was not reported, did not suffer injuries according to RPD.
Three of the occupants of the sedan, including the driver, were trapped inside the vehicle and required extrication by responding personnel. One vehicle occupant, who was determined to have received minor injuries in the crash, was able to exit the vehicle on his own.
The driver of the vehicle was interviewed after extrication and RPD administered a field sobriety test. Officers determined that the woman was under the influence of alcoholic beverages and arrested her on-scene before releasing her for medical treatment of serious injuries. The woman will reportedly be booked into the Shasta County Jail after she is released from the hospital.
The third passenger of the sedan was reported to have suffered a serious laceration on his arm as the result of an attempt to exit the vehicle by breaking out of a side window. The unidentified passenger was also hospitalized.
Investigation
While authorities have charged the woman with DUI and manslaughter, an investigation into the crash is ongoing. According to Shasta County records, the driver of the vehicle received a traffic ticket in Shasta County in 2017 for running a red light.
RPD has asked that witnesses and those with information about the collision to report what they know by calling the RPD Traffic Division at (530) 225-4200.
