Redding Accident Injures Man

I’m Ed Smith, a Redding personal injury lawyer. On Tuesday, June 1, 2017, a 34-year-old male resident of Anderson was traumatically injured as a result of a single-vehicle collision on the southern end of Redding.

Accident Details

According to reports from the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the man had been traveling west on Canyon Road close to the intersection of China Gulf Drive near the Victor Treatment Center on the outskirts of the southwest side of town.

The man had reportedly been driving at about 5:30 p.m. when he entered a slight curve. For unknown reasons, the man veered outside of the curve and off of the roadway. The maneuver caused his vehicle to overturn and eventually come to a stop after colliding with a nearby tree, according to CHP.

Emergency Response

When emergency medical officials arrived at the scene of the accident, they found that the driver was pinned inside his vehicle and had apparently sustained serious injuries. Emergency responders extricated the man from the wreckage and found that he had suffered major injuries. CHP told reporters that the man may have suffered a spinal fracture injury.

The man was taken by ambulance to the nearest hospital so that his injuries could be treated properly. Additionally, his injuries were not believed to be life threatening.

Causal Factors

CHP is currently investigating what caused the collision to happen. However, they have stated that they do not suspect the consumption of alcohol and/or drugs to be a factor in the accident. Possible contributing factors in this accident include defective roadways, distracted driving, dangerous roadway conditions, defective car parts, and more.

Vertebral Fractures

There are 22 separate bones comprising the backbone, each slightly different than the rest and all at risk of being fractured in an auto accident. Any part of any vertebra can sustain a fracture; patients can have compression fractures in the body of a vertebra or fractures in the protrusions, or processes, of the vertebra.

The biggest risk that comes with a fractured vertebra is an injury to the spinal cord. Spinal cord injuries can cause chronic pain and are also liable to leave those who sustain them with paralyzed body parts. Each year, there are around 11,000 cases of spinal cord injury in the United States and there are currently about 250,000 Americans with previous spinal cord injuries.
