Red Bluff Highway Crash Kills Pedestrian

Reports from area California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers stated that one pedestrian lost his life during a car accident in Red Bluff on Friday, December 28, 2018. The collision reportedly involved only the pedestrian and a semi truck and occurred during the early morning on a major area highway. County officials have identified the fatally injured pedestrian as Kenneth Victor Scott, a 59-year-old resident of Red Bluff. The latest available information from CHP indicates that this collision remains under investigation.

My sincere condolences and support are sent out to Mr. Scott’s loved ones during this difficult time.

Crash Details

CHP reported the collision took place at around 3:10 a.m. on Highway Interstate 5 within city limits. Scott was reportedly in the southbound lane of the highway only a short distance north of the off-ramp for Main Street when he was struck by a passing semi-truck. Officials say the truck was being driven by a 29-year-old man from West Sacramento. According to CHP, they had received reports of a man walking on the freeway about five minutes before the crash took place, including two reports describing narrowly avoided collisions.

After the crash took place, medical officials were immediately sent to the collision scene. Scott was found with severe injuries. Tragically, officials declared Scott deceased before he could be placed on an ambulance. The driver of the big rig was found without any injuries. Additionally, no other people or vehicles were reported to have been involved in the collision.

Investigation

Traffic reports show that CHP shut down one of I-5’s southbound lanes as well as the Main Street off-ramp for nearly four hours while they investigated the scene and ensured that the roadway was safe for traffic. While an investigation into possible accident factors is currently being conducted, CHP has not officially stated what they believe to have caused the incident.

Trucking Accidents

Semi trucks are typically the largest vehicles you will see on the road and because of their massive size, they are liable to cause major damage in the event of a crash. Accidents that may otherwise have been minor can easily cause major injuries when a semi-truck is involved. The companies that own these trucks are well aware of the risks posed by their vehicles and almost always have legal teams at-the-ready to defend themselves from liability when accidents occur. For this reason, having a Red Bluff wrongful death lawyer on your side as soon as possible after a trucking crash can be vital to recovering the money you deserve for your losses.
