Jeep Wrangler 4xe SUVs Recalled Due to Fire Risk

Stellantis is issuing a recall for over 32,000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid SUVs. The recall affects models from the 2021 to 2024 model years. The primary concern leading to this recall is the fire risk when these plug-in hybrid SUVs are parked. Stellantis has identified a potential vehicle issue that could pose a fire hazard, especially when the Wrangler 4xe is stationary.

Taking Precautions

In a statement addressing the recall, Stellantis has emphasized that the affected Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles can still be driven. However, they strongly advise owners not to recharge these hybrid vehicles and recommend parking them away from structures and other vehicles until the necessary remedial actions have been taken.

Fire Incidents

Stellantis has reported eight fires involving parked Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles. These incidents are particularly concerning because, in six of the eight cases, the Wrangler 4xe was connected to electric chargers when the fires occurred.

The Proposed Fix

The solution to the fire risk issue is primarily a software update. It’s important to note that only a tiny percentage of the recalled group is estimated to have this problem, approximately 1 percent. This software update is designed to address the identified issue and enhance the safety of the affected vehicles.

In addition to the software update, if a specific error code is detected, the battery pack will be replaced as part of the remedy process. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure that the fire risk is completely mitigated.

Safety Assurance

Stellantis has stated that, to their knowledge, there have been no reported crashes or injuries related to the identified defect. While the fire incidents are a cause for concern, there haven’t been any accidents or injuries linked to this issue, which is reassuring for affected vehicle owners.

How to Seek Assistance

If you own one of the recalled Jeep Wrangler 4xe vehicles, it’s essential to promptly address the issue and ensure your safety. You can contact Jeep directly at 800-853-1403 to inquire about the recall and the necessary steps.

Checking for Recalls

You can use the NHTSA’s website to determine whether your specific vehicle is subject to this recall or any other recalls. By entering your car’s 17-digit vehicle identification number (VIN) on the NHTSA’s website, you can check for any open recalls that require attention.

If no recall appears after entering your VIN, it indicates that your vehicle has no open recalls. However, it’s important to remember that automakers issue recalls regularly, including for older vehicles, so it’s wise to revisit the website periodically to stay informed about any potential safety issues.

Stellantis’ recall of Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid SUVs is a proactive measure to address a fire risk concern. While the percentage of affected vehicles is small, owners must take the recommended precautions and seek the necessary remedies promptly to ensure their safety. Staying informed about recalls and promptly addressing them is essential to vehicle ownership and safety.
