Rancho Cordova Curbs Crime
Last November the citizens of Rancho Cordova voted to pay for the formation of a new crime suppression unit.
What is a crime suppression unit?
This unit is made up of four Rancho Cordova police officers. They are a group focusing on target areas.
What is the main focus area that they will be targeting?
- High Crime neighborhoods
- Gang Members
- Parolees
- Registered Sex Offenders
What do the citizens of Rancho Cordova think about it?
Many are happy and supportive of the crime suppression unit. They feel like they are partnering with Rancho Cordova Police Department by targeting these high crime areas. This sends a message that citizens won’t tolerate criminals in their city. These are law abiding citizens working together with law enforcement to improve the community. This goes beyond regular policing. This is an extra measure to reduce problematic crime sectors.
What is the cost?
The unit is being paid for by a half-cent sales tax increase known as Measure H.
Rancho Cordova citizens voted in favor of Measure H last November.
It specifically provided more funding for fighting crime in their community.
