Reports from Placerville area California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that a fatal car accident happened on a local highway on Tuesday, January 15, 2019. The collision reportedly involved two vehicles and left three people with injuries that tragically cost them their lives. The three injured individuals included a 51-year-old man from Fremont, a one-year-old child, and a Fremont woman of an unreported age. The identities of the fatally injured parties are being withheld by county authorities pending their families’ notification. CHP says that they are still investigating the crash. Collision Details
CHP reports state that the crash took place at approximately 6:35 p.m. on Highway 50 close to the exit for Camino Drive a few miles east of the city of Placerville. The Fremont man had been traveling west on the highway at a speed of about 60 miles per hour in a 2005 Volvo S60. Suddenly, he lost control of his vehicle and the car spun out, traveling into oncoming traffic lanes. The Volvo entered the path of a 2017 Subaru Impreza that had been traveling at around 65 miles per hour and the two vehicles collided.
Response
Emergency responders arriving at the crash location found that the impact of the collision had ejected the one-year-old and Fremont woman from the Volvo despite both parties wearing proper restraints at the time of the accident. Both the woman and infant, as well as the Volvo driver, were sadly declared deceased before they could be put on an ambulance.
The Subaru driver, who was identified as a 37-year-old Pollock Pines man, was transported on a helicopter ambulance to be given treatment at a hospital for major injuries.
Auto Accident Investigation
While the collision is still being investigated, reports have stated that the heavy rain may have contributed to the Volvo driver losing control. Investigators stated that all parties had been wearing seat belts and that neither drugs nor alcohol were involved in the crash. In response to the accident, CHP urged drivers navigating area roads in the rain to “slow down, be careful, and get where you are going safely.”
