Pittsburg Man Identified in Fatal Antioch Crash

On Tuesday, March 31, 2020, authorities reported the identity of a Pittsburg man who tragically lost his life during a double-vehicle collision that took place in the nearby city of Antioch. The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office identified the decedent as David Mattie, a 52-year-old man. According to reports from the Antioch Police Department (APD), the crash happened at night just off of a local highway. In addition to Mattie, an 18-year-old man from Antioch also suffered trauma during the crash.

Collision Details

According to APD, the crash happened at around 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday, March 25, 2020. Mattie had been driving eastbound on Highway 4 when he pulled off at the Contra Loma exit. As Mattie exited the highway, he approached an intersection. For unknown reasons, his vehicle passed through a red light and eventually collided with the broadside of another vehicle that had been traveling through the intersection.

Response officials were sent to the scene directly after police received notification. When they arrived, responders discovered that both vehicle drivers had been seriously injured. Tragically, Mattie was pronounced deceased on-site. The teenage driver of the second vehicle was taken to a nearby hospital for emergency care. Medical officials have since reported that his injuries were not life-threatening. Reports indicated that two other people were found in Mattie’s vehicle but were not physically injured during the accident.

Investigation

According to APD, this accident is being actively investigated. However, no suspected collision factors have been reported so far. Collisions like this one are often caused by factors outside of driver control, such as issues with the roadway or defective car parts.

Wrongful Death Damages

After learning that a loved one has passed away in a vehicle accident, many people experience a very intense period of grief. During the initial stages of grieving, many people feel overwhelmed or even shocked and unable to process what is happening. These intense emotions can make it difficult to continue dealing with the demands of your daily life. While grieving, it’s very important to seek out support from the people in your community as well as your family and friend group.

Because fatal accidents are so emotionally devastating, it can be difficult for those who’ve lost loved ones to focus and many people want to delay contacting a wrongful death lawyer. However, filing an injury claim can help families claim critical payments and having a lawyer early on is often vital to your case.
