Pickup Crashes Into Herd of Cattle Along Jackson Highway

I’m Ed Smith, a Rancho Murieta car accident lawyer. A herd of cattle wandered onto Jackson Highway on Monday, March 6, 2017. A motorist on the same highway could not avoid a collision with the herd and struck them.

What Happened?

A pickup truck driver was traveling westbound along Jackson Road. For unknown reasons, a herd of cattle was wandering along the roadway in the vicinity of Sunrise Boulevard and Jackson Road. The driver was unable to avoid the cattle and crashed into them. The impact of the collision caused the motorist’s truck to sustain severe body damage. There were no other vehicles or victims involved in the automobile accident.

Was the Driver Okay?

Thankfully, the driver of the pickup truck was reported to be uninjured after the collision.

Were Any Cows Injured?

According to a spokeswoman for the Sacramento County Animal Care and Regulation, nine cows passed away and two suffered injuries as a result of the collision. Ranchers euthanized two of the cows before the Sacramento County Animal Control arrived at the scene. Ranchers in the area assisted deputies from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department corral the uninjured cows together until the owner of the cattle arrived and took over.
