Pedestrian Killed Near Lodi

I’m Ed Smith, a Lodi personal injury attorney. It is terrible to read about someone dying as a result of being hit by a car. What makes it even worse is when we learn that a driver fled the scene of an accident without stopping to render assistance or calling 911. This was the case near Lodi recently after witnesses said a hit-and-run driver left a pedestrian injured and dying.

What Happened?

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) was notified that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle along the Highway 99 Frontage Road in the vicinity of the Mokelumne River at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2016.

Pedestrian Passed Away

Sadly, when the CHP arrived at the accident scene, the pedestrian had already passed away as a result of the severe nature of the injuries sustained.

Witness Accounts

Officers said witnesses had come forward to indicate that the vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene. CHP said this is a case of hit-and-run.

A vehicle description was not available.

If You Have Information About the Suspect or Vehicle

If you have information about the suspect or suspect vehicle, you are urged to contact the CHP tip telephone line at 1-800-835-5247.

Common Reasons Hit and Run Drivers Flee the Scene of An Accident

There are a wide variety of reasons a hit and run driver may flee an accident scene. Some of the most common appear below:

  • Fear
  • Outstanding Warrants
  • Under the Influence of Drugs and/or Alcohol
  • Lack of Driver’s License (suspended license)
  • No auto insurance
  • In the US illegally

Insurance May Still Be Available In Hit and Run Cases

Many folks are under the wrong impression that if they cannot find a hit and run driver then no insurance is available.

If the victim who has been injured or killed by a hit and run driver has his own policy of auto insurance or lives in a residence where someone has auto insurance, there may be coverage under the unisured motorist portion of the policy. If you have any questions, please contact a personal injury attorney.

We extend our condolences to the friends and loved ones of the pedestrian who passed away in this senseless hit and run accident.
