Pedestrian Killed in Fair Oaks Accident

A pedestrian killed in a Fair Oaks accident was walking in the bike lane at the intersection of Winding Way and Johnson Drive at about 9:30 p.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that a female motorist driving a gray SUV was heading westbound on the roadway when she veered into the bike lane, hitting the male pedestrian. Due to his injuries, the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. I would like to take this opportunity to offer my condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Additional Details

Authorities said that the woman was found to be operating her vehicle under the influence of alcohol. She was taken into custody and remanded to the Sacramento County Jail on vehicular manslaughter and DUI charges. Neither the pedestrian nor the driver have been identified at the time of this reporting.

What a Personal Injury Attorney Can Do for You

Losing a loved one in a pedestrian accident can be a devastating experience for the family. Nothing can dampen the grief and loneliness they feel. Unfortunately, the family may also face financial hardship in this difficult time. When the negligence of another person has claimed the life of a loved one, a personal injury lawyer can file a claim for wrongful death.

Wrongful Death Claims

A wrongful death claim makes it possible for the family to handle expenses during this difficult time. Make no mistake, it will not lessen their grief, but it will allow them to grieve without the fear of not being able to pay the bills. Some of the damages that can be recovered are:

  • Burial expenses
  • End of life costs
  • Lost wages the decedent might have earned
  • Loss of consortium
  • Expenses needed to hire workers for jobs the decedent would have done about the house and property
  • Loss of inheritance
