Two-Vehicle Accident on Elkhorn Boulevard Injures Pedestrian
A two-vehicle crash in North Highlands on May 30 caused pedestrian injuries. The accident happened at the Elkhorn Boulevard intersection with Thomas Drive around 9:00 p.m. The incident report issued by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that the two vehicles were going in opposite directions along Elkhorn when the one heading east attempted a left turn and crashed into the other car. Because of the collision’s impact, one of the vehicles jumped a curb and hit the pedestrian, who works at Jimboy’s Tacos.
Pedestrian Transported to MSJ Hospital With Major Injuries
The injured pedestrian was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center with major injuries. Investigators into the cause of the accident say they will be reviewing the film from traffic surveillance cameras to determine fault because both drivers are saying the other motorist caused the crash. Only minor injuries were suffered by the drivers involved.
Factors Contributing to Pedestrian Injuries

- Failure to yield: Pedestrian injuries can occur if a driver fails to yield. Typically, this occurs when a pedestrian crosses the street, and the driver hits them. Yielding to a pedestrian is especially important if the person crossing moves more slowly, such as children, the elderly, and the disabled.
- Red-light runners: It is common for people on foot to be injured or killed when drivers run red lights or stop signs.
- Tailgating: If one driver strikes another at an intersection while tailgating, it may result in a pedestrian accident. A vehicle striking the car ahead of it can cause it to slide into a crosswalk, which can hurt pedestrians.
- Government negligence: An accident involving a walker can result from government negligence in road maintenance. Walking on street corners can be dangerous when trees or shrubs are overgrown, lighting is poor and crossing signals don’t work properly. The poor maintenance of roads can additionally lead to a driver losing control of their vehicle, resulting in pedestrian injuries.
