Accident on Folsom Boulevard When Hit-and-Run Driver Strikes Two People

A pedestrian fatality with a second injured walker occurred on January 29 in Rancho Cordova when they were struck by a hit-and-run driver. The accident happened around 9:00 in the evening along Folsom Boulevard between West La Loma Drive and Rod Beaudry Drive, according to the report by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department. When officers arrived at the accident scene, they discovered an unconscious man lying in the parking lot of a business, who had suffered significant trauma.

One Pedestrian Dies and Another Survives Hit-and-Run

Emergency responders with the Sacramento Fire Department arrived to pronounce the man dead. Deputies also discovered a second man the hit-and-run driver had struck. Fortunately, he suffered only minor injuries but was transported to a hospital for additional treatment.

Information Sought About Hit-and-Run Driver

Information is being sought by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office in locating the driver who fled the accident scene after striking the pedestrians. They are seeking additional information about the vehicle, driver and reason the accident happened. Anyone with information is asked to phone (916) 874-5115.

Causes of a Pedestrian Fatality

Because people on foot are so vulnerable, they often suffer serious injuries or become a pedestrian fatality when they are struck by a motor vehicle. In many cases, the fault lies with the driver such as the following:

  • A driver runs a red light or stop sign: When someone is crossing a street and is struck by a red-light runner, it can easily cause a pedestrian fatality.
  • The driver is drunk or has been using drugs: Intoxication is a dangerous condition when combined with a motor vehicle. Because the driver’s vision is affected and reflexes and judgment altered, it can cause a pedestrian fatality.
  • Intentional act: Some drivers may think they can strike a pedestrian and get away with it if they flee the scene.
  • Fatigued driving: A driver who is too tired is as much of a danger as one who is intoxicated. Some cases of fatigued driving are caused by late hours the night before or performing shift work. Others are caused by medications or a medical condition.
  • Distracted driving: A distracted driver may be texting or chatting on a cell phone as well as other activities. Distracted driving is now the number one reason for a traffic accident and can cause a pedestrian fatality.

Locating a Hit-and-Run Driver Following a Pedestrian Fatality

Our office is experienced in locating hit-and-run drivers. It is a passion with us because we don’t believe that a hit-and-run driver should get away with a heinous act without being held responsible. In addition, finding that driver helps to bring closure to the family. Our office not only works with authorities, but our investigators head out to uncover the information to locate the driver.

The investigators check the accident site for evidence that can point to the vehicle such as paint smears and pieces of metal. This can help identify the make and model. They perform accident reconstruction and look for business and traffic surveillance cameras that could have caught the accident on tape. Witnesses are interviewed and the police is report inspected for errors.

The gathered evidence is handed over to our injury attorneys once the driver is found. They can use it to construct a strong case for wrongful death, which benefits the family.

Uninsured/Underinsured Drivers

Californians can choose to take an uninsured/underinsured policy when they apply for car insurance. Many do because of the high number of drivers in the state who have no insurance or very little. If the person who was injured or died did not have this add-on policy and a household member does, it can be used instead. It does not affect the policy rates.
