Pedestrian Fatality in North Highlands

Pedestrian Fatality in North Highlands

A pedestrian fatality occurred in North Highlands on November 21 when a woman died while crossing Roseville Road at approximately 5:18 a.m. A spokesman for the California Highway Patrol (CHP) in North Sacramento reported that the woman was struck by a Ford F-150 pickup along Roseville Road, where it intersects with Tacomic Drive. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators into the accident.

According to the police, the woman who was killed is believed to be a homeless person and was not carrying any identification. Her identity has not been released pending notification of the family. The accident is under investigation by the North Sacramento CHP to determine how the pedestrian fatality collision happened. Both Tacomic Drive and Roseville Road were closed as the initial investigation took place.

More Details of the Pedestrian Fatality

Authorities said the pickup was heading southbound on Roseville Road when the pedestrian walked across the street. The driver’s dashcam recorded the accident, and police were able to review it. It showed the woman wearing dark-colored clothing, walking into the path of the pickup just before being struck by the vehicle. CHP was alerted to the accident after the driver called 911, and the pedestrian was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Roseville Road Accidents Are Common

The intersection of Roseville Road and Tacomic Drive is a three-way street, and crosswalks are not available there. Roseville Road is a common location for traffic accidents, including those with pedestrians. A pedestrian was injured back in May after being hit by a motorist and required hospitalization.

Losing a Loved One in a Pedestrian Accident

The loss of a loved one in a sudden accident can be overwhelming for the family. The ability to resolve their unexpected demise and the circumstances surrounding their death can be difficult to resolve. Sometimes, those closest to the deceased are filled not only with grief but a sense of guilt in not having the chance to say goodbye. Dealing with this takes time and the help of those closest to them. However, immediately after the pedestrian fatality, there are many things that can be done to ease their pain:

  • Make sure the person eats and sleeps appropriately, even if it means bringing food or groceries to their home.
  • Give them the benefit of your presence. They need to have someone to talk to, even if they don’t ask for it.
  • Offer to help with the funeral arrangements. This is a very difficult task for most people.
  • Help with small children. It is difficult to explain to children why their parent or grandparent is gone. Offer to take them to the movies, your home, or the park for a few hours. Also, ask who will be taking them to and picking them up from school. Offer to do this if you can.

Pedestrian Accidents

While the number of Californians who choose to walk increases every year, so does the number of people who are hurt and killed while on foot. Lighting conditions and the presence of crosswalks are factors in pedestrian accidents. Sixty to ninety percent of these types of accidents happen between 3:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.

Wrongful Death Cases

It is possible to bring a wrongful death case against the party or parties involved in someone’s demise. While that does not relieve your grief, it will bring you a sense of justice and alleviate many financial issues involved in someone’s demise. For example, it can be used to pay funeral and burial costs. It is best to speak to an experienced lawyer about this. Since it is a personal injury case, there is no charge until the case is won.

What Our Law Firm Does to Help

Most accidents are not entirely clear cut, and even those that seem to be should be examined for negligence. That is what our law firm does. We send investigators to the accident scene to search for evidence that can be used to determine who is at fault. We do this by talking to witnesses and examining police reports for negligence. If the death happens in an area that had many accidents, we look at the design of the road, the number of lights and whether a crosswalk has been installed. If there is a reason to believe that the city or county dropped the ball, we examine building a wrongful death case against them. After the evidence is acquired, our attorneys work to build a strong case against the defendant.
