Orangevale Teenager Struck on Hazel Avenue

A pedestrian death occurred in Orangevale on April 10 during the early morning hours after a teenager was struck by a vehicle. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the male teen was reported to be running across southbound Hazel Avenue at the intersection with Oak Avenue at about 6:00 in the morning when he was hit. The minor was pronounced dead by emergency responders at the accident site. He was later identified by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office as a 13-year-old resident of Orangevale.

Additional Details About the Pedestrian Death

The individual who reported the accident was the driver of the vehicle. That person remained at the scene of the accident parked on the right-hand side and with their flashers on waiting for police and the Sacramento Fire Department personnel to arrive. Hazel Avenue was closed down in the vicinity of the pedestrian death accident while an investigation was conducted by the CHP into the walker’s demise.

Losing a Loved One

It is always a tragedy to lose someone dear to you, but few things are worse than losing a young person. Friends, family and people you work with want to help following a pedestrian death but don’t always know what to do. Some of the following tips might help:

  • If you live too far away to make a personal visit, sending a sympathy card or flowers and calling on the phone can let a grieving person or family know you are thinking of them.
  • Send or bring food. Because people who are grieving are less likely to eat, it is thoughtful to bring over food.
  • Be a good listener since talking about their family loss is one way in which people grieve.
  • Offer to do things around the house to help out. This can include weeding the garden, mowing the lawn, washing dishes or babysitting.
  • Offer to accompany the family member when funeral arrangements have to be made. This is a stressful task to face, and having someone who is not a family member along can be calming.
  • Understand that everyone grieves differently. Because someone appears stoic and doesn’t shed tears doesn’t mean they aren’t deep in grief.
  • Grief for the loss of a loved one doesn’t stop after the funeral and burial. Afterward, continue to offer your support and help.

Investigation of a Pedestrian Death

A thorough investigation gathers the evidence needed to support your wrongful death claim. We send our investigators to the accident site to talk to the witnesses and check for mistakes in the police report. The investigators perform accident reconstruction and check for signs if the driver tried to stop before the collision. Traffic light surveillance and business cameras are a good source of evidence too because the accident might have been filmed as it happened. When the evidence is compiled, our lawyers use it to build a claim, which can be used when negotiating with the insurance company or building a court case.
