Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Eureka Auto Accident

One person sustained critical trauma during a Eureka auto accident on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. The Eureka Police Department (EPD) reports that the collision happened at night in the central area of the city and involved a pedestrian as well as a single vehicle. As of the latest reports, the injured pedestrian was still in hospital care and in serious condition. The accident remains under investigation by EPD at this time.

Crash Details

The collision happened at about 10:00 p.m. on the northbound side of 5th Street/Highway 101 close to the intersection of P Street outside of the local Subaru Parts store. The pedestrian, who has not been identified in reports, was walking in the area while a driver was heading northbound on 5th in a vehicle of unreported make and model. The driver, identified as a 20-year-old from Arcata, reportedly collided with the pedestrian for unknown reasons. Whether or not the pedestrian was inside of the roadway or on the sidewalk at the time of the accident was unclear.

Response

Responders were sent out to the scene directly after police were notified and arrived to find the pedestrian with critical injuries. The injured individual was rushed to a regional hospital to be given life-saving medical care. The driver of the vehicle was reportedly not injured as a result of the collision.

Investigation

EPD stated that the driver pulled over and remained at the crash scene and was compliant with officers during investigations. Police indicated that they evaluated the driver and do not believe driving under the influence was a factor involved in the collision. As investigations continue, EPD has not mentioned any factors that they suspect could have caused this terrible crash.

Often, pedestrian collisions happen for reasons outside of the control of both the pedestrian and driver. Examples of these kinds of factors include roadways that are poorly lit or have inadequate pedestrian infrastructure as well as defective vehicles, and more. When collisions involve these kinds of causes, third-parties like government agencies and/or auto product companies can often be held financially responsible for collision damages.

Pedestrian Accident Damages

Pedestrians who survive serious accidents typically suffer major injuries and frequently run up considerable medical bills. Furthermore, being so seriously injured can make it hard or even impossible to do your job, resulting in a very sudden loss of income. Taken together, these issues can leave injured pedestrians feeling overwhelmed by their situation and unsure of what they can do.

Because the above issues are serious, it’s critical to get in touch with a Eureka pedestrian accident lawyer as soon as you are able so that you can get advice about filing a personal injury claim. Through pursuing compensation through such a claim, pedestrian survivors can often obtain payments that fully cover their economic and personal losses.
