Parking Lot Accident in Antioch Fatally Injures Toddler

Earlier this month, a tragic pedestrian vs. car accident unraveled in a Sears parking lot at an Antioch mall. The accident, which took place on a Monday evening, left a 3-year-old girl with fatal injuries. The child was from Brentwood, according to the Contra Costa County coroner’s office.

My deepest condolences go out to all those who are grieving for this unspeakably horrific loss of the child whose life was taken too soon. My prayers and well wishes are with you.

Accident Details

A car was going through the Sears parking lot at Somersville Towne Center Mall when the driver struck the young girl walking. The accident was called in at roughly 7:30 p.m. that Monday evening. Emergency responders arrived at the site of the collision, located along the 2600 block of Somersville Road. The 3-year-old was found unresponsive in the parking lot and was immediately rushed to a local hospital. Sadly, the child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The driver stayed at the scene and appeared to be cooperative with police that was running the investigation. Antioch police sergeant Matthew Koch stated that alcohol and/or drugs did not seem to be connected to this pedestrian accident. The driver’s identity is currently unknown to the public and may remain anonymous until the investigation is over. Police did not indicate if the driver will be facing any charges for the accident.

Memorial Held Next Day at Accident Site

On the following Tuesday morning, Somersville Towne Center employees and other local residents gathered together to mourn the loss of the young girl. Memorial attendants held a moment of silence and prayer next to a tree only a few yards from the accident. Attendants brought flowers and a stuffed “Clarice” reindeer to remember the little girl. Shannon Skinner, a marketing manager who attended the memorial, spoke for everyone in attendance by stating that their hearts, thoughts, and prayers are with the little girl’s family and everyone else impacted by this tragedy.
