One Suffers Fatal Trauma in Redding Motorcycle Crash

On Sunday, December 20, 2020, one person sustained fatal trauma as the result of a Redding motorcycle crash. At this time, Shasta County officials are still withholding the identity of the decedent until their family has been notified. The Redding Police Department (RPD) reports that the incident happened between a motorcycle and passenger vehicle early in the night. No other people suffered injuries during the accident.

Crash Details

The collision happened at about 7:00 p.m. at the intersection of Sunset Drive and Eureka way. RPD has not yet reported information regarding what events led up to the fatal accident. However, police stated they believe a 2007 Audi and a 2016 Yamaha motorcycle collided head-on inside of the intersection. Additionally, officers reported that the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet and that the driver was wearing a seatbelt.

Response

The collision was reported via phone to police, and RPD dispatch rushed a response team to the site. When they arrived, responders discovered that the motorcyclist had sustained critical trauma during the collision. Sadly, medical officials declared the motorcyclist deceased at the scene.

Investigation

Eureka Way reportedly remained closed to traffic for several hours while police investigated evidence at the collision site. At this time, officers have not confirmed any suspected causes of the crash. However, RPD has stated that they believe driving under the influence was not involved in this accident. As investigations continue, police are looking into multiple possible causes, including non-motorist factors like faulty motorcycle parts and issues with roadway pavement.

While police put a lot of work into investigating auto accidents, the investigation process can be very difficult when they aren’t able to take statements from involved motorists. For this reason, it’s possible that officers won’t uncover all of the relevant evidence while investigating a deadly crash. Sadly, this can leave families without the ability to obtain fair repayment for the damages that they’ve suffered.
