One Seriously Hurt in Eureka Motorcycle Crash

One person suffered injuries during a Eureka motorcycle crash that took place on Wednesday, March 3, 2020. The Eureka Police Department (EPD) stated that the accident involved a pickup truck and a motorcycle. Responders indicated that the injured individual received severe trauma, and updates on his condition are currently unavailable. The crash remains under EPD investigation.

Crash Information

According to EPD reports, the accident occurred at about 6:45 p.m. at the intersection of West Hawthorne and Broadway Streets on the west side of Eureka. Police stated that a black pickup truck driving northbound on Broadway collided with the motorcycle as the latter was changing lanes. No further details about the collision were reported.

Response

CHP was notified via phone call about the crash and immediately dispatched an emergency response team to the site of the collision. When emergency officials arrived, they found the motorcyclist in the roadway with severe trauma. The man was placed in an ambulance and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigation

According to traffic reports, the northbound lane of West Hawthorne Street was closed to traffic for nearly an hour while emergency response and preliminary investigations took place. So far, no suspected accident factors have been reported. However, police did indicated that DUI is not a suspected cause.

Collisions involving vehicles and motorcycles can happen for a number of reasons, many of which can’t be controlled by either divers or cyclists. In many cases, a faulty vehicle part or poorly designed road contributes significantly to an accident. When this happens, parties such as vehicle manufacturers or government entities responsible for roadway maintenance are often considered fully or partially at-fault for the collision.

Sustaining a Serious Injury

Motorcyclists are very vulnerable and suffer severe injuries at a higher rate than vehicle passengers and drivers. Many of the injuries that motorcyclists receive have a major impact on their lives. Frequently, the process of recovering from an injury takes months or even years, and many injured motorcyclists are left with permanent health issues like chronic pain or limited mobility.

While the recovery process can be both painful and stressful, it’s also often very expensive. Most people who are left with major accident trauma receive bills for ambulance rides, medical procedures, and hospital stays and may also need to pay for physical therapy, medications, in-home care, and more. Altogether, these costs can add up to a very large sum, and paying your medical bills off can be even more difficult if your injury has affected your ability to perform your job.

Getting Help from An Attorney

The issues that crash survivors face can be worrying. However, it’s often possible to get help by working with an attorney and filing a personal injury claim. These claims exist to help injured people recover the compensation that they deserve for the damages they suffer as the result of traumatic accidents.
