Vehicle Rolls Over Multiple Times in Hit-and-Run Crash on U.S. 50

A hit-and-run crash occurred in Folsom on October 3 that left one woman injured. The collision occurred along westbound U.S. 50 near the northbound Prairie City Road entrance ramp around 3:35 in the afternoon. The report issued by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that a Toyota RAV4 experienced a rollover after striking the center divider.

Vehicle Rolls Over Multiple Times

The accident blocked all but the slow lane, and several vehicles pulled over to the side to try and assist. A witness to the crash in a Tesla said that the vehicle overturned approximately five times and landed on its wheels. The CHP reported the accident as a hit-and-run with injuries.

Driver Sought in Hit-And-Run Crash

No information was released on the fleeing vehicle or driver involved in the crash as the CHP investigates the incident. First Responders with the Sacramento Fire Department checked on the woman involved in the multiple rollover collision. It was not reported whether she was taken to a hospital or treated at the scene.

Rollovers

In general, rollovers are both violent and complicated. Although any vehicle can roll over, those with a high center of gravity are at the highest risk. However, several factors contribute to the chance of a rollover. Some of the most common are:

  • Speed: Speed is a predominant factor in fatal rollovers. Approximately 40 percent of rollovers are associated with speeding. Beyond that, about 75 percent of all deadly rollovers occur in areas where the speed limit is 55 or more.
  • Location: About 75 percent of fatal rollovers occur in rural areas, particularly on roads that lack barriers or center divides.
  • Drunk driving: Drinking while driving has a large effect on rollover risk. Since alcohol use affects concentration, judgment, and muscle coordination, it raises rollover risk due to loss of vehicle control. Overall, 50 percent of fatal rollovers involve alcohol.
  • Single-vehicle crashes: Eighty-five percent of all fatal rollovers involve a single-vehicle crash. The lack of another vehicle supports the belief that rollovers are often the result of driver behavior. Additionally, rollovers may be due to manufacturer defects

Crushed Roofs

Fatalities are often linked to a crushed roof that crashes down on the occupants. Federal rules mandate that the infrastructure must be able to support multiples of the vehicle’s weight. For instance, a car that weighs 6,000 pounds or less should be able to support three times its weight. When a manufacturer fails to integrate this into their design, they can be held liable for the damages. It is essential to preserve the vehicle after a rollover for further investigation.

Hit and Run

Clients injured due to a hit and run driver often question how they will be compensated for their damages if the fleeing driver is not found. If the injured party has uninsured/underinsured automobile insurance, they can use it to cover their medical care, lost wages and pain and suffering. Even if they don’t have it and someone in their family does, the injured person can use their policy to obtain damages.

Investigation of an Accident

In proving a claim for damages following an accident injury, it has to be shown that the at-fault person was negligent. This is where our investigations come in. They go out to collect the evidence to support that claim. Some of the areas in which they investigate include:

  • Interviewing witnesses
  • Obtaining videos of the accident
  • Using accident reconstruction techniques to determine liability
  • Reviewing police reports for mistakes
  • Examining the vehicle for roof crush liability
