One Killed in Napa Pedestrian Collision

One Dead Following Napa Pedestrian Collision

On Friday, July 31, 2020, one person was tragically killed during a Napa pedestrian collision. Local authorities identified the decedent the day after the collision as a 28-year-old woman and Napa City resident. Officials from the Napa Police Department (NPD) indicated that the crash happened around sunrise on Highway 29 and did not injure any other parties. The collision remains under investigation at this time.

Crash Information

NPD Sgt. Kristofer Jenny reported that the accident was called into police at about 5:15 a.m. The caller indicated that a pedestrian had been struck on the northbound side of SR-29 close to the intersection at Wine Country Avenue. Preliminary investigations conducted by NPD indicated that two vehicles had been involved in the accident and that both were traveling at or below the speed limit when the pedestrian was struck inside of a traffic lane.

Response

Responders from both NPD and the Napa Fire Department arrived at the crash scene shortly after the incident occurred. Police stated that they found the pedestrian was critically injured during the crash and tragically pronounced her deceased on-site. Police indicated that drivers of both vehicles and at least one accident witness remained at the scene and cooperated during response and investigations.

Investigation

According to reports, the NPD Accident Reconstruction Team was sent to investigate the site of the deadly collision while CHP and Caltrans both assisted with traffic control and management of the scene during morning commute hours. Sgt. Jenny stated that NPD believes “other motorists may have struck the pedestrian after (an) initial collision.” NPD has also indicated that they do not suspect driver or pedestrian intoxication to have played a part in causing this tragic incident.

As they continue to investigate, NPD has urged any witnesses of the accident to get in touch with investigating officers and report what they’ve seen. Callers should use the non-emergency phone line for NPD’s traffic division, (707) 257-9223. Additionally, officers indicated that they will be looking for video surveillance footage from nearby homes and businesses in order to further investigation efforts.

Wrongful Death Damages

People who’ve just lost a loved one often experience intense grief. A sudden and fatal accident can leave people feeling shocked and unable to keep up. During the initial grieving period, it’s important to take time to be with the people you care about and rely on the support of your community, friends, and family. However, some families aren’t able to process their grief because they are worried about financial issues related to the accident.

While issues like lost income, household services, and personal suffering can make life very difficult for grieving families, it is often possible to obtain compensation through wrongful death claims. Wrongful death claim payments can give families the financial security that they need to focus on healing after a traumatic loss.
