One Person Killed in Fiery Pittsburg Collision
One man was recently killed in a fiery Pittsburg collision that occurred after dark. The traffic accident happened at the 900 block of Garcia Avenue, shortly after midnight. The Pittsburg Police Department, as well as the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District (CCCFPD), both dispatched responders to the scene of the crash that involved two vehicles, a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck tractor-trailer. According to police, the passenger vehicle had hit the front of the parked semi-truck and was on fire upon their arrival. Emergency responders could see the driver was unconscious and stuck inside the vehicle. Pittsburg PD tried to put out the fire with fire extinguishers while they began to extricate the man from the vehicle. The CCCFPD and Engine 85 assisted with on-site medical care for the injured man. Eventually, the driver was transferred to John Muir Medical Center for his major injuries. The extent of the driver’s injuries were very severe, and it was at the hospital where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The Fatal Accident Response Team unit at the Pittsburg Police Department has taken over as head of the investigation. Some eyewitnesses have stated that the passenger vehicle was traveling at a fast speed down Garcia Avenue moments before the incident. The involvement of drugs or alcohol has not been confirmed. The accident is still under active investigation, although no full report has been released to confirm the nature of the fatal crash. The identity of the male will be withheld until next of kin contacts have been notified.
