One Dies After Pedestrian Hit-and-Run in Vallejo

On Wednesday, September 9, 2020, one person suffered fatal injuries during a pedestrian hit-and-run in Vallejo. The Solano County Sheriff’s Office has not yet reported the identity of the decedent. The Vallejo Police Department (VPD) indicated that the crash happened at night on the western side of the city and did not injure any other individuals. The crash is currently under police investigation.

Crash Information

VPD reported that the crash happened at 10:42 p.m. on Sonoma Boulevard near the intersection of Yolano Drive not far from the Highway 37 overpass. Details about the events leading up to the incident have not been made available and police indicated that little is known about the accident.

According to VPD, police received a call about the incident and sent out a response team. When responders arrived at the 4300 block of Sonoma Boulevard, they found a man lying in the road, stretched across both southbound lanes. Responders reportedly attempted to revive the man using life-saving medical procedures. However, the pedestrian could not recover and was tragically pronounced deceased on-site by responding officials.

Investigation

Police determined that the pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle and that the driver immediately drove away from the accident scene. The missing vehicle and driver have not yet been apprehended, and information about them remains sparse. Investigators have asked for public assistance with their investigation and anybody with information about this incident is urged to call Officer K. Trimble at (707) 648-4011.

Hit-and-Run Accidents

Fatal accidents can be devastating for families, and hit-and-runs can be even more stressful. Usually, negligent drivers can be held responsible for accident damages and families can recover compensation to cover their damages. However, with hit-and-run collisions, the responsible party may never be found.

While police are often able to locate hit-and-run drivers, families may be able to claim compensation even if the at-fault motorist is never found. This is possible through utilizing “uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage.” This type of coverage is included in many insurance policies and often allow families to claim the payments they need to have financial security after deadly hit-and-runs.

However, uninsured/underinsured motorist coverages are optional in California and the amount of compensation can vary depending on the specific policy. Furthermore, insurers may make low-ball offers, hoping to pay out less than families deserve. For these reasons, it’s very important to have an experienced attorney to help you with your case. An attorney who knows how to handle wrongful death cases and hit-and-run accidents will know how much money you are owed and how to negotiate with insurance companies to make sure you and your loved ones receive fair compensation.
