One Dead After Highway 162 Crash

On Friday, February 12, 2021, one person passed away after being involved in a Highway 162 crash near Oroville. California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the incident involved at least two passenger vehicles and happened in a rural area at night. At this time, Butte County Sheriff’s Office authorities have not yet reported the identity of the decedent. In addition to the decedent, four individuals were reported to have sustained injuries as a result of the crash.

Crash Details

The collision took place on Highway 162, close to the intersection at Midway Road just east of the Thermalito Afterbay outside of Oroville. Details regarding the incident, including how many vehicles were involved and how the crash took place, have not been made available in CHP traffic reports.

Directly following the crash, CHP was notified about the incident via phone. Dispatchers rushed a response team to the site right away and, when they reached the area, responders determined that seven people had been involved in the accident and that multiple individuals were trapped inside of the wreckage. Fire crews reportedly removed individuals from the vehicles using special machinery.

After extrication, responders determined that a total of five people had been seriously injured. Tragically, one of these individuals was pronounced deceased on-site. The other four were transported to area hospitals for medical attention.

Investigation

CHP officers have indicated that they are actively investigating in order to determine what causal factors contributed to the crash. However, no likely causes have yet been mentioned by investigators. Multi-vehicle crashes are often complicated events that involve more than a single cause. Furthermore, it’s common for accidents to be caused by things not under the control of any involved drivers, such as poorly built car parts or defective roads. In these situations, parties not present at the collision may share financial responsibility for damages resulting from the incident. These parties may include government bodies, auto manufactures, and more.

Wrongful Death Damages

The death of a loved one can be devastating. After a deadly accident, families usually experience a very difficult period of grief and may feel overwhelmed by their emotions or even shocked and unable to keep up with their normal lives. During such a traumatic time, it’s very important to try and take care of yourself and your loved ones. However, the financial issues that affect families as a result of deadly accidents can make it very difficult to focus on the important task of emotional healing.

Fortunately, families can contact an Oroville wrongful death lawyer for help. Often, families can file a wrongful death claim in order to hold at-fault parties financially liable for their economic and personal losses. The payments available through these claims can cover things like lost income and/or services as well as compensation for loss of quality of life and more. For specific information about what your family may be able to recover, it’s important to get personal advice from a lawyer.
