One Dead Following Eureka Pedestrian Crash

One person lost their life during a Eureka pedestrian crash that occurred on Saturday, March 7, 2020. According to the Eureka Police Department (EPD), the accident involved a pedestrian pushing a stroller as well as a single vehicle. The decedent was identified two days later as Kelsey Diffin, a 25-year-old resident of Eureka. The child in the stroller was reportedly unharmed during the crash.

Collision Information

According to EPD, the accident happened at about 11:45 p.m. on the 2100 block of Broadway Street near Harbor Lane. Reportedly, Diffin had been crossing the street mid-block when she was struck by an oncoming red-colored SUV.

After receiving a phone call reporting the crash, EPD dispatched an emergency team to the crash location. Responders discovered Diffin lying in the road with critical trauma. According to reports, medical officials attempted to revive her by performing CPR and ordered two ambulances to the scene. Diffin and her child were placed on separate ambulances and transported to a nearby hospital. However, Diffin was not able to recover from her injuries and tragically lost her life later that night.

Crash Investigation

EPD closed one northbound lane of Broadway street while police and medical personnel responded to the incident. The roadway remained closed for a short time, while EPD investigators surveyed the scene for evidence that could help them understand the causal factors of the crash. The collision remains under EPD investigation at this time, and officers have yet to mention any suspected factors.

Collisions in which one or more parties lose their life can be difficult for police to fully investigate. Because the decedent is unable to offer their version of events to officers, it’s possible that investigators will overlook important evidence that could have a major impact on the outcome of a wrongful death case. The best way to make sure that the crash is investigated fully and with your family’s rights as a priority is to reach out to a wrongful death lawyer for help. An experienced attorney will be able to investigate the crash themselves in order to defend your right to compensation.

Wrongful Death Damages

Losing a person that you love is a tragedy. When the loss is due to a sudden accident, it can be even more difficult to process your grief. After fatal auto accidents, it’s common for people to experience intense emotions or even a state of shock. While this is all a normal part of the grieving process, feeling overwhelmed often makes people delay contacting an attorney.

It’s very important to take care of yourself and your family as best you can after such a traumatic event. However, negligent parties don’t always experience the same grief and will usually start putting together a defense right away. By taking action early on, you improve your chances of claiming important compensation for damages like loss of income, household services, and more. Not only are these payments important for families who need to pay their bills, but knowing a lawyer is handling your case can help you and your loved ones to have more time to focus on emotional healing.
