Fatality Reported in Pittsburg Car Accident

A fatality was reported after a young man died in a single-vehicle wreck in Pittsburg. The accident happened just before 2:30 a.m. near the 3700 block of Railroad Avenue. According to Jim Huntze, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Battalion Chief, firefighters were dispatched to the accident after a report of a vehicle that had entered the canal. The car was found upside down, completely submerged in the water while a person was trapped inside the car. Three rescue swimmers entered the water and were able to free the man. Fire crews performed CPR and provided medical care to the 19-year old male while they transferred him to a local hospital. It was at the hospital where the male succumbed to his injuries. Emergency responders estimated that he may have been submerged underwater for up to 30 minutes.

Single-Car Accidents and Wrongful Death

While an investigation is still pending, it is important to know that accidents of this nature can happen due to a wide variety of factors, including many things outside of the driver’s control. Some other causes of single-vehicle car crashes include a phantom vehicle, hazardous roadway, or a faulty car or car part.

Losing a Loved One After a Fatal Accident in Pittsburg

Losing a loved one after a car crash is devastating, as it can often leave family members with both emotional and financial-related stress. Under California law, grieving family members are provided with the right to recover compensation for damages through a wrongful death claim. These cases can aid in covering expenses and losses suffered on behalf of the loved one’s death, giving the surviving family members time to grieve their loss while providing them with financial security.

When a Wrongful Death Claim Can be Filed

California has its own statute of limitations for wrongful death claims. This refers to the period of time in which a family can bring forth a case. Wrongful death claims can be filed within two years of the loved one’s death. Because it can be difficult for grieving family members to know the ways to proceed in such a case, having a trusted attorney to manage all the deadlines and criteria needed for the claim is strongly advised.

How a Wrongful Death Lawyer Can Help Your Family

A strong wrongful death lawyer is willing to spend extensive time to negotiate with the insurance companies that try to avoid compensating families for their damages. Insurers are reluctant to give out money and commonly hire their own defense attorney to pick apart the details of the wrongful death claim. A seasoned Pittsburg wrongful death lawyer is equipped with the tactics needed to overcome the challenges presented by these insurance companies, in order to ensure that rightful compensation is awarded to the family that is unfairly suffering.
