Man Killed in Oakley Head-On Collision

A Bethel Island man was killed in a recent car accident near Oakley, CA. The fatal accident happened shortly before 6:00 p.m. on Bethel Island Rd, just north of Cypress Rd in Oakley. The deceased man was 69-years old and ultimately died from his injuries that resulted in the crash. The man has been identified by the Contra Costa Office of the Sheriff’s Coroner Division as Wally Driskell. A GoFundMe page has been created on behalf of the Driskell family to help cover their loved one’s funeral expenses.

Investigation of the Oakley Head-On Collision

According to the Oakley Police Department, it is believed the Driskell had been traveling southbound along Bethel Island Rd when the crash took place. Both of the two cars involved were significantly damaged. The road was closed to traffic, so emergency response teams, including police, paramedic, and fire crews could pursue their operations.

Driskell was the solo occupant inside his car, a red Dodge sedan. Firefighters from the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District had to bring out the Jaws of Life to extricate Driskell from the wrecked vehicle. After removing him from the Dodge, he was transported via medical helicopter to the John Muir Trauma Center in Walnut Creek. He passed away at the hospital shortly afterward.

Two occupants were inside the other car involved in the accident, one of which was a pregnant woman. Both occupants were taken to the Sutter Delta Center in Antioch for treatment. Their injuries were described as minor to moderate in severity. No update was immediately available on their condition.

The accident is continually under investigation by the Oakley Police Department. A spokesperson at the scene of the collision stated that drugs or alcohol were not perceived to be involved in the crash, and no charges are expected to be filed.

Recovering from a Wrongful Death

Being affected by the wrongful death of a loved one fills us up with extreme grief, making it hard to maintain our day-to-day lives. The devastating aftershock of an unexpected death leaves us needing additional time to cope and recover. However, personal recovery is practically impossible when financial concerns are in the picture, as well. On top of the loss of a loved one, a fatal accident can leave any family with a loss of income as well as other financially negative impacts.

Pursuing financial stability amongst these dark times is crucial. With a wrongful death claim, it is within our rights to seek compensation for personal and economic losses that have been endured. Filing a wrongful death claim allows families going through an unnecessary loss to hold negligent parties liable for the damages that can cripple an already suffering family.
