One Dies in Redding Motorcycle Accident

Fatal Redding Motorcycle Accident

On Friday, July 31, 2020, one person lost their life during a Redding motorcycle accident. Officers of the California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the crash involved a motorcycle as well as a passenger vehicle and happened at night on a highway within the city. Shasta County authorities identified the decedent as Steven Grondahl, a 37-year-old resident of Redding. The cause of the accident is still being investigated.

Crash Information

The collision occurred at 9:30 p.m. on CA-44 close to the exit for Park Marina Drive in the area of Turtle Bay. Police say that Grondahl was driving his motorcycle eastbound on Highway 44 when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle crashed into the rear-end of a Chevrolet SUV. The impact threw Grondahl from his bike and onto the road.

Response

After CHP dispatch was notified about this accident, they sent a response team to the site. Responders arriving at the crash scene discovered that Grondahl had been wearing a helmet, but was still severely injured during the accident. Tragically, Grondahl was pronounced deceased on-site. According to CHP, occupants of the SUV suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. However, details about their injuries were not reported.

Investigation

CHP officers shut down the highway for a significant period while they investigated evidence at the scene. So far, speeding is the only suspected factor that investigators have mentioned. In many crashes involving motorcycles and passenger vehicles, there are non-driver accident factors involved. These can include defective car or motorcycle parts, dangerous roads, and more.

Additionally, fatal accidents can be hard to investigate, especially when an involved driver cannot offer testimony about the incident. Because of this, police may not fully understand what factors caused the accident. To ensure that the crash is investigated with your family’s rights as a priority, it’s important to contact a Redding wrongful death lawyer and ask for help. A good attorney can conduct their own investigation and determine if any negligence was involved in the crash.
