One Dies in Davis Area Car Accident

A Davis area car accident reportedly left one person with injuries that cost him his life on Friday, September 20, 2019. The accident involved three vehicles and left one additional person with injuries. The injured individual was reportedly taken to a hospital but was not seriously hurt during the accident. The Yolo County Sheriff’s Office identified the decedent as a 64-year-old man from West Sacramento. However, his full identity is being withheld pending his family’s notification. The collision remains under active investigation by officers of California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Crash Information

According to police reports, the crash happened at approximately 6:10 p.m. on the eastbound side of Highway Interstate 80 just west of the exit for State Route 113 outside of Davis. A Jeep Compass had been driving east on the highway in the No. 1 lane when traffic began to slow. The Jeep did not slow in time and collided with the rear-end of a Nissan Kicks. The Nissan was pushed forward by the impact and struck the rear of a Ford F-150.

A motorist driving nearby reportedly stopped their vehicle and contacted police officers before attempting to render aid to the injured Nissan driver. When emergency medical responders arrived, they found that the man had been critically injured and tragically declared him deceased on-site. The driver of the Jeep, identified as a 45-year-old Oakland man, was taken to the Vacaville Kaiser Hospital for treatment of what police said were minor injuries. The Ford driver, a 46-year-old West Sacramento man, did not reportedly receive trauma during the accident.

Investigation

As the investigation into possible causes of this accident continues, CHP has reported that neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have been involved. Any person who may have pertinent information that could help investigators have been asked to contact CHP at either (530) 428-2100 or at 1-800-TELL-CHP. Callers have been advised to give information to CHP Officers Zach Shaw, who is in charge of this investigation.

Contacting a Lawyer

When a person passes away during an accident, so does their version of the events that caused the crash. For this reason, it’s important to get in touch with an experienced lawyer who knows how to privately investigate an accident and determine whether or not your family may be able to recover compensation through filing a wrongful death case. While the love and care of a family member or friend can’t be replaced, in many cases, families are able to get the financial stability they need to recover personally by claiming payments for medical expenses, funeral costs, and more.
