One Dead in Fatal Merced Motorcycle Collision

On Friday, October 25, 2019, a Merced motorcycle collision left one person with fatal injuries. According to area California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers, the accident only involved a single vehicle and did not leave any other individuals with injuries. The decedent has been identified by Merced County Sheriff’s Department authorities as 28-year-old Hilmar resident Jacob McComb. An investigation into the accident is being conducted by CHP personnel.

Crash Details

According to police, this accident happened during the early hours of the morning at approximately 2:52 a.m. McComb had been driving his motorcycle on Highway 165, heading north past the exit for Westside Boulevard. For reasons that investigators do not understand, McComb’s motorcycle drifted to the west and crossed over into southbound lanes. Eventually, the motorcycle entered the highway shoulder and continued a short distance before striking a nearby utility pole. When authorities arrived at the accident site, they found McComb had sustained critical injuries. Tragically, he was pronounced deceased shortly after officials arrived.

Investigation

As CHP continues their investigation into this incident, no suspected collision factors have been mentioned in any reports. In cases where an involved driver passes away, it can be difficult for police to get a complete picture of what took place because they can’t get the decedent’s testimony about the crash. In many cases, this causes investigators to overlook key factors like malfunctioning vehicle parts, phantom drivers, or roadway hazards. Because of this, it is critical to get in touch with a lawyer who knows how to conduct their own private investigation into the crash in order to determine if any negligence may have been involved.

Contacting an Attorney

Suffering the death of a person that you care about is never easy, and many people feel overwhelmed by grief after experiencing something so traumatic. Often, the loved ones of decedents have a hard time socializing, going out, and taking care of daily tasks and can find it difficult to focus on anything other than their grief. While it’s important to take the time you need to recover emotionally, calling a lawyer is one thing that you shouldn’t delay.

Parties such as auto manufacturers or insurers don’t need to deal with the same emotional fallout and usually begin putting together a legal defense immediately. By controlling investigations, taking their own statements from witnesses, and obscuring key evidence, these parties aim to disclaim responsibility for the damages that you and your family have suffered. Having a lawyer to represent your family early on is a crucial part of reclaiming the money that you deserve for lost income, medical expenses, emotional trauma, funeral costs, and more.
