One Dead After Eureka Crash

California Highway Patrol (CHP) stated that one man tragically lost his life during an auto accident that happened in Eureka on Friday, July 5, 2019. The crash involved one vehicle which collided with the fatally injured man’s home. The decedent was identified by Humboldt County authorities as Bob Beland, a 64-year-old Eureka man and the owner of Humboldt Lock and Safe. Mr. Beland’s Wife, Elizabeth Martin, was also seriously injured as a result of the collision. Police have stated that the driver involved in the crash has been arrested on DUI charges related to this incident. My sincere condolences are with Mr. Belland’s loved ones as they are enduring this difficult time.

Crash Information

The wreck took place at about 10:20 p.m. on Humboldt Hill Road. Police say that a pickup truck had been driving in the area when the driver apparently lost control of his vehicle. The pickup truck eventually traveled off the road and struck the side of Beland’s home, driving right into his bedroom. According to police, the driver attempted to flee the accident site after the crash occurred.

When emergency medical officials arrived, they found that both Beland and Martin had suffered serious injuries. Both individuals were transported by ambulance to the St. Joseph’s Hospital in Eureka to be given immediate medical care. Sadly, Beland’s injuries were too great, and he passed away while at the hospital. Officials indicated that Martin would be treated for her trauma and released from the hospital sometime in the future.

Fundraiser

Friends of the Beland family stepped up to help right away by organizing an online fundraiser. The fundraiser can be found at this link. A community member told reporters that Beland was a generous man who was “always willing to give back to the community.” A local official noted that Beland would rekey the locks at an area baseball field for free as a method of contributing to his community.

Contacting an Attorney

When a person passes away in an accident, their loved ones are often left in a state of shock. The emotional impact of losing someone you care about can be immense, and many people are unsure of how they will continue to live their lives without the support of their family member. However, families are often able to claim payment for their emotional and financial losses through wrongful death claims. While the love and care of a person can’t be replaced, these claims can help families have financial security during difficult times. For more information, contact a Eureka wrongful death lawyer.
