One Arrested After Major Motorcycle Accident Near Redding

On Wednesday, February 10, 2021, two people were severely injured during a motorcycle collision near Redding. California Highway Patrol (CHP) states that the accident happened at night and involved one motorcycle as well as an SUV. Additionally, officers indicated that the SUV driver was placed under arrest on charges of driving under the influence following the crash. The conditions of the two injured people have been reported, and the collision is still under CHP investigation.

Crash Details

The accident happened at approximately 7:00 p.m. on Gas Point Road close to the Marsha Way intersection just outside of the small community of Igo southwest of Redding. According to police, a Mercury Mariner was heading northbound on Gas Point when the vehicle veered to the left and crossed over the median, entering southbound traffic. While driving the wrong way on southbound lanes, the SUV crashed head-on into a motorcycle. Pictures of the accident scene show major damage to the front driver’s side of the SUV.

Response

Officers were rushed to the scene right after CHP was called about the accident. Upon arrival, responders found that the driver and passenger of the motorcycle were severely injured and both were transported by ambulance to a regional hospital to be given immediate medical attention.

The SUV driver was arrested on-scene and whether or not any occupants of the SUV sustained injuries was not reported.

Motorcycle Accident Injuries

Motorcyclists typically do everything possible to stay safe, but are still likely to suffer major injuries in the event of a collision. The injuries that motorcyclists sustain in accidents often have a huge impact on their life, and the recovery process can be both difficult and expensive.

In many cases, motorcyclists who survive collisions need to pay for multiple surgical procedures as well as ambulance fees, hospital stays, physical therapy sessions, and more. Furthermore, being seriously injured can affect your ability to work, and many crash survivors suffer a temporary or possibly permanent loss of income as a result. Taken together with hospital bills, this can leave many motorcycle accident survivors feeling worried about the future.
