Sacramento Resident Dies in Moped Traffic Accident

A traffic accident involving an older man on a moped and young motorist claimed a life on March 11 in Sacramento. The accident happened along 66th Street close to Stockton Boulevard at around 7:20 in the evening, according to a report by the California Highway Patrol (CHP). A man was exiting a driveway on a 2008 Lancer moped when he was struck by a 2005 Acura MDX driven by a teenager, 19, who was heading east along 66th Avenue.

Further Information About the Traffic Accident

The moped driver was ejected from his bike into the lanes going westbound. Although he was transported to a nearby hospital, efforts by medical personnel to save him failed, and he passed away. Neither drugs nor alcohol are suspected to be factors in the crash, and the motorist remained at the scene, cooperating with the investigation. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office has identified the decedent as 62-year-old Eddie Felix Avalos of Sacramento.

Showing Sympathy After a Family Loses a Loved One

When a family member, colleague, or friend loses a family member, it can be awkward wondering what to say or do to show them you care. However, some of the following tips on handling grief can be helpful:

  • Listening is more important than talking. Those who are grieving simply need someone nearby to listen or just sit with them quietly.
  • Reach out to be there for them, and don’t expect them to call you because they are preoccupied with their loss. If you can’t be there in person, send flowers or a card to let them know you are thinking about them.
  • Invite them out to eat, or bring over a prepared meal. Delivery from a restaurant or even fast food is welcome too. People who are grieving often forget to eat, and this is a time when they need their strength to cope.
  • Help in other ways. A grieving person will often not ask for help, but friends and family can step in to do what is needed. This can include mowing the lawn, bringing groceries, picking up children from school, and other chores.
  • Offer to accompany a grieving person to make the funeral and burial arrangements. This is a difficult time, and a grieving person should never have to do it alone.
  • Remember the grieving person or family after the funeral is over. They will be overwhelmed at times with loneliness and a sense of loss. Keep calling, visiting, and helping. It will help your family member or friend through the grieving process, so they can get on with their life.

Help in Obtaining Compensation After a Wrongful Death

An experienced lawyer can help a grieving family obtain compensation following the loss of a loved one. Family members who received at least 50 percent of their support from the deceased are eligible to place a claim. Our investigators are sent to find evidence and start by talking to witnesses to the accident and looking for errors in the police report. They look for video footage from nearby traffic and business cameras and perform accident reconstruction. Accident reconstruction is commonly used when negotiating with an insurance company. The gathered evidence is given over to our lawyers, who use it to construct a case that favors our client. It can be used either in preparing a court case or negotiating with the insurance company on your behalf.
