One Killed in Off-Road Collision in Tehama County

On Saturday, March 8, 2020, one person tragically lost his life as the result of an off-road crash in rural Tehama County. The decedent has since been identified by county officials as Michael LaGrande, a 78-year-old man and Tehama County resident. The cause of the accident remains under investigation and no other parties suffered injuries during the incident.

Collision Details

California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports indicated that the accident occurred on a private ranch in southwestern Tehama County off of Newville Road to the south of Round Valley Road. LaGrande had been driving a 2020 Honda SX 1000, a type of vehicle called a “side-by-side” with a 10-year-old girl as his passenger. According to reports, the vehicle suddenly sped up to around 40 miles per hour before making a sharp right-hand turn. The turn caused the vehicle to roll onto its right side.

According to officials who participated in emergency response, LaGrande suffered severe trauma during the incident. Sadly, he was declared deceased on-scene. The young girl was reportedly not physically harmed during the accident.

Investigation

Police say that they do not know what caused the vehicle to suddenly accelerate and make an unsafe turn. However, officers involved in the investigation of the crash have stated that driver intoxication is not a suspected factor. Collisions involving a single vehicle are frequently caused by things that drivers cannot control, including auto part defects and other factors.

When a driver passes away as the result of a crash, police lose access to that person’s version of events. This means that it can be difficult for investigators to get a full picture regarding what caused the collision and may lead police to overlook key pieces of evidence. By working with a wrongful death lawyer, families can make sure that the accident is investigated by an experienced professional with the resources and skills necessary to find out whether or not negligence was involved.

Calling an Attorney

After a deadly car accident, it’s common for family members of the decedent to go through a very intense grieving process. Dealing with the daily demands of your life during this period can be hard, and taking legal action can seem far-off. However, negligent parties who may be liable for accident-related damages usually don’t experience grief and are often very quick to begin building a defense against financial responsibility.

To ensure that you and your family receive the compensation you deserve for losses related to the accident, it’s vital to reach out to a compassionate, skilled Red Bluff wrongful death lawyer who can help you with your case. Having an attorney early on can make a critical difference, and knowing that a professional is handling your case can help you and your loved ones to focus on personal healing in a difficult time.
