Oakley Two Vehicle Collision Injures Both Drivers

Drivers Injured in Two-Vehicle Crash

Two people have been hospitalized due to traumatic injuries resulting from a car collision in Oakley. Those involved in the car accident have yet to be publicly identified. Thankfully, no fatalities occurred as a result of this collision.

What Happened?

On Saturday evening, September 9, 2017, a two-vehicle accident sent both drivers to a hospital. After what appeared to be a T-Bone collision at a four-way intersection, one driver was trapped in the wreckage and had to be extracted by firefighters who responded to the scene. The driver of a blue Honda CR-V had to be pulled out from his vehicle by the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District (ECCFPD) as well as the Contra Costa Fire Protection District (Con Fire). Both teams had to use hydraulic rescue tools to pry the victim out of the car. Even though a REACH medical helicopter arrived at the scene, the paramedics used an ambulance to transport the Honda driver to the John Muir Health Trauma Center in Walnut Creek. There was a passenger in the Honda who was not injured.

The driver of a grey Toyota Tacoma was also taken to a hospital from the scene and was transported by ground. There were two passengers in the Toyota that walked out of the accident unharmed. The cause of the incident is currently under investigation by the Oakley Police Department.

Where Did This Happen?

The collision happened at an intersection of Rose Avenue and W. Cypress Road at approximately 6:30 p.m. The intersection is identified as a four-way stop. An investigating officer reported that both drivers involved in the T-Bone accident claim to have made a full stop before entering the intersection.

According to one of the officers investigating this accident, the Honda was heading south on Rose Avenue and the Toyota vehicle was heading west on W. Cypress Road. After the impact of the crash occurred, the Honda spun off the road and into a nearby vineyard before it rolled back to the intersection.
