September 2018 Heart of Oakley CA Festival Arrives

September 2018 Heart of Oakley CA Festival Arrives – If you didn’t already know about the Heart of Oakley Festival, prepare to be enlightened – this family-friendly event is free and not to be missed. On Saturday, September 22, locals and visitors alike are encouraged to visit the redesigned downtown corridor with their partner, friends, or family. Festival-goers will have the opportunity to shop at the unique retail vendors, sample fresh food, observe some of the nine different entertainment acts, and more. The Heart of Oakley Festival will be fun for the little ones too, as this event is complete with a children’s activities center.

Event Organization

Heart of Oakley is sponsored by You Me We Oakley!, Friends of Oakley, Oakley Disposal Service, and MCE Clean Energy. The one-day event will take place from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m at the Civic Center Plaza along Main Street between Norcross Lane and Vintage Parkway. Oakley recreation and event coordinator Cindy Coelho hopes that this communal event will succeed in bringing families and community members together for a fun, carefree day. She stated that the festival was intentionally placed along Main Street, one of the major city roadways, in attempt to attract residents from some of the surrounding communities. By doing so, guests will be able to experience the food, shopping, and updated downtown corridor that highlights the quality of Oakley’s community.

What to Expect This Year

Event organizers are anticipating roughly more than 5,000 people to be in attendance this year. Even as a city with a population of almost 45,000, this festival continues to enforce the small town atmosphere that many find so appealing. However, the small-town feeling of Oakley contrasts against the city’s broad diversity. City leaders intend on using this event to celebrate the residential diversity in Oakley by setting up cultural booths that will explore and discuss the different traditions and customs unique to various cultures.

The amphitheater will be home to live entertainment from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Guests performers include the East County Performing Arts Center, Brentwood Blaze cheer team, the Nova Band, Keep in Time Dance Academy, and much more. If you come to the event on an empty stomach, there will also be tons of food options. Attendees can feast on barbecue sandwiches and chicken wings at Fusion BBQ, the famous tater tots from Drewski’s Hot Rod Kitchen, desserts from Dee’s Cake Pops, or one of the many other food stands available.

Those who are interested in shopping will also have a wide variety of options, with more than 50 vendors eagerly showcasing clothing, jewelry, makeup, skin care products, soaps, candles, teas, and other hand-crafted items. If you would like to keep your kids entertained while browsing through all that this Heart of Oakley festival has to offer, they can hang out at the kids center which will include jump houses, arts and crafts, a balloon artist, and a caricaturist.

Parking Information

Free parking can be found at lots on Gardena Avenue and Main Street, Norcross Lane and Main Street, and at Oakley Elementary School. Disabled parking is available at the Civic Center Plaza parking lot towards the amphitheater. Please keep in mind that Main Street will be closed from 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. for through traffic, stretching from Norcross Lane to Vintage Parkway.
