Novato Art and Wine Festival Safety Tips

Novato Art and Wine Festival

Novato Festival of Art, Wine and Music: Safety Tips

I’m Ed Smith, a Novato car accident lawyer. As people living in Novato and the surrounding area know, June 11 and 12 are the dates for the 2017 Novato Festival of Art, Wine and Music. This amazing festival is in its 34th year and celebrates life in Northern California. With a mix of imported and regional wines, micro brewery beers, handicrafts, live music and gourmet foods to try out, it is expected to welcome thousands of people.

Children’s Activities

This will be a big weekend for children too. An area will be reserved for kids to participate in art projects, try out the climbing wall, slide down the giant slides and have fun with the water balls. Train rides and bouncy houses will also be there. Vendors will be there with frozen treats, clothing, books, gifts and toys. Educational activities will be available through members of the police department in Novato, the Fire Protection District and other public servants.

Live Music

A lively selection of music, including sing-a-longs and storytelling, will be offered on both days.

Festival Tips

  • The festival opens at 10:00 a.m. both days. It closes at 7:00 p.m. Saturday and 6:00 p.m. Sunday.
  • Remember to bring the wine and beer glasses you have purchased.
  • Bicycle parking is free and located close to the main stage.
  • No pets (except service dogs) and no smoking inside the festival grounds.
  • You must have festival glasses to purchase wine or beer, and it is cash only.

Common Injuries at Festivals

Of course, I want families to have fun at a festival and stay safe. However, accidents and personal injuries do occur, particularly when large crowds gather. Common claims include food poisoning, head injuries, neck injuries and broken bones. These can be caused by falling objects, ground that has been improperly prepared in advance and poor crowd control at a festival.

Partaking of all the delicious offers at a festival is tempting and usually safe. Vendors are required to follow safe cooking, handling and serving procedures outlined by the state department of health. When that doesn’t happen and someone gets sick from food poisoning, that means the place that sold the food was not following the California safety codes. Amusements must also be safe. For example, a bouncy house that is improperly tied may result in injuries to children.

Drinking and Driving

Drinking and driving is a dangerous combination and illegal. If you are drinking at the festival, appoint a designated driver. In addition, leaving the parking lot area, particularly when others have been drinking, can lead to car accidents or pedestrian accidents.
