Fatal Accident on Roseville Road May Have Involved Wrong-Way Driver

A multiple-vehicle crash resulted in a fatality in North Highlands on March 3. The accident happened along Roseville Road near Andrea Boulevard. Although little information about the collision was available, officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) said investigators think one vehicle was a wrong-way driver, which resulted in the death of one of those involved in the accident.

Authorities Recommend Caution When Driving on Roseville Road

A spokesperson for the CHP said that all of Roseville Road had a high frequency of collisions and that drivers should pay more attention. The accident is being investigated to determine exactly what happened and to assign fault. No information was provided on whether any of the others involved in the crash suffered injuries.

Negligence That Can Lead to a Multiple-Vehicle Crash

Numerous types of negligence can cause a multiple-vehicle accident – the most common are listed below:

  • It was too late to avoid a collision because the motorist was too distracted by texting or talking on their phone.
  • Due to driving too fast, the driver was not able to stop in time to avoid causing a multiple-vehicle crash.
  • Due to an irregular schedule, staying out too late the night before or some other reason, the driver was too fatigued to drive.
  • Alcohol– or drug-impaired drivers were unable to operate vehicles safely, leading to a multiple-vehicle crash. They are often the cause of a wrong-way collision.

Liability in a Multiple-Vehicle Crash

Multiple automobiles can collide, and more than one driver may be at fault in an accident. Injury lawyers can be helpful in this situation. An investigation must be conducted in order to prove that a traffic fatality was caused by negligence. The investigation is conducted so that a wrongful death claim can be filed by the grieving family to recover compensation.

An Unexpected Death of a Loved One

Grief often consumes families following the passing of a loved one. Death due to someone else’s negligence is far more tragic. Families who experience this often file wrongful death claims. Even though it won’t alleviate their sorrow, it will allow them to avoid financial hardship and ensure that those responsible for causing the death are held accountable.

In a Wrongful Death Lawsuit, Damages Can Be Awarded

In a wrongful death lawsuit, the following damages are commonly recovered:

  • Expenses related to the funeral and burial can be claimed.
  • Wages, pension and insurance benefits, tips and bonuses are recoverable that the decedent would have earned until the age of retirement.
  • Loss of consortium can also be claimed, as well as loss of love and affection a spouse would have received had the decedent lived.
  • It is possible for a decedent’s children to receive compensation for the comfort, guidance, and nurturing the deceased would otherwise have provided.
  • The decedent may have been responsible for household chores such as tax preparation, vehicle and lawn care, childcare and other things that helped the other family members. Those costs can be reimbursed.
