Accident at I-80 Connector With I-50 Involves Crashed Box Truck

A box truck accident in North Highlands on March 28 ended up closing down northbound I-50 at the split with the eastbound I-80 connector. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received the information that the truck had crashed and possibly overturned, blocking all the lanes at the split. A SigAlert was issued, warning drivers to avoid the area.

However, it was reported the traffic backup extended as far as Howe Avenue. The CHP will investigate the cause of the accident to discover how it occurred. It is unknown at this time whether other vehicles were involved in the box truck accident and whether injuries were reported.

Insurance Coverage in a Box Truck Accident

It is important for a box truck driver to have coverage under their insurance policy when involved in an accident. If you seek compensation, we can assist you in determining which coverage applies, review your case, gather the necessary documents and evidence and negotiate on your behalf with your insurance company. An accident caused by a negligent driver can cause physical pain and suffering. It shouldn’t be your responsibility to shoulder the financial burden. Medical costs, lost wages, and pain and suffering damages can be recovered by bringing a personal injury claim against the negligent driver.

Box Truck Accidents

In Northern California, box trucks are common on the roads. Due to their size, weight and difficulty in handling, accidents with them are common. Amazon and many other large companies, as do private individuals who rent them, use box trucks. Negligence on the part of a box truck driver can lead to some accidents, including:

  • A full load on a box truck makes stopping distances longer, resulting in rear-end collisions.
  • Unexperienced box truck drivers may not realize they have larger blind spots and require a longer stopping distance than passenger cars.
  • Companies with large fleets frequently experience speeding problems with their drivers due to their busy schedules.
  • Injuries can occur if a driver is distracted while driving, such as consulting their delivery schedule or GPS.
  • An improperly loaded box truck can roll over if the driver makes a sharp turn or the load shifts, resulting in other vehicles colliding with it.

Box Truck Insurance Coverage

When one of a company’s vehicles is involved in a liability case, the insurance policy typically provides at least $1 million in coverage. It is a requirement for private motorists who rent box trucks to carry an insurance policy to protect them in case of an accident while driving, however, these policies are usually very limited, with coverage ranging from $15,000 to $30,000. The auto insurance policy of the box truck driver usually compensates people for their losses in accidents.

When a company rents a vehicle to a driver with a suspended license or the truck has a mechanical defect, the company may be responsible. To obtain the compensation you deserve following an injury accident with a box truck, it is important to hire a lawyer due to the complexity of liability and the possibility of multiple insurance policies.
